What is your favourite quote and why?

Everyone seems to have a favourite quote, and usually has a reason behind it. I love quotes, and especially their stories...why they have meaning for you.
    I have 3 tattoo'd, and one more
"Not all those who wander are lost" LOTR in Elvish (R foot),
"Happiness is when what you think, what you say and what you do are in harmony - Ghandi (written in Hindi) L foot, and
"If, by my life or death I can protect you,  I will" - LOTR, in English on my L bicep to have children's names added as they arrive.

The other is - I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I'm not" - Anon.
    You?

A Dorothy Parker poem - Resume

    Razors pain you
    Rivers are damp
    Acids stain you
    and drugs cause cramp.
    Guns aren't lawful
    nooses give
    gas smells awful
    You might as well live.

It's black and sardonic and direct and just Dorothy. She probably made this up late night at the drinks table - handy advice for someone down on their luck!

There are many more. Oscar Wilde's - Some cause happiness wherever they go, some whenever they go.

I like - If I agreed with you we'd both be wrong. Anon I think.

You could eat him, He's a boy- Plath

An extract of Plath's poem, Lesbos. This quote resonates deeply within me. A convergence of vulnerability and infinite strength is exuded in such a laconic statement. It is quite inept for me to perhaps explain why this quote has such multitudes of meaning. It just does.

I have loads of favorite quotations - this one's a doozey:

"whichever interpretation prevails at a given time is a function of power not truth."

    Nietszche

    Or on a lighter note:

"Always forgive your enemies, nothing annoys them so much."

    Oscar Wilde

Creativity is intelligence having fun.  Albert Einstein

This meaning to me you can be creative and very intelligent, but it doesn't have to be considered "work." Have fun in life while trying your best to do something positive to maybe change it for the better in some way.

One of my favorite quotes is:

"Wonder is the foundation of all philosophy, research is the means of all learning, and ignorance is the end."

    Michel de Montaigne (1533-1592)

1.Love never fails when all else fails.
2.Disappointments will nullify when you turn it into love.
3.You cannot win when you fight ,you win when you do not fight.
All qoutations are from me inspired from my readings  from the undisturbed life.

    My favourite quote:

'It is simple to be happy and also happy to be simple'.

Not sure who said it but I have tried to live by it all my life. I am always trying to 'simplify, simplify, simplify'...!

One of my favorite quotes is "Do what is right, not what is comfortable" - it keeps me in line at work and at home.

    I have a couple I really like:
Your actions speak so loudly,I can hardly hear what you say.
    and
Experience is a dear school, but fools will learn in no other.

Abandon yourself to the troubling element:it will support you.

“He realized now that the bitch-goddess of Success had two main appetites: one for flattery, adulation, stroking and tickling, such as writers and artists gave her; but the other a grimmer appetite for meat and bones. And the meat and bones for the bitch-goddess were provided by the men who made money in industry.”

We are what we repeatedly do; excellence, then, is not an act but a habit.
    —Aristotle

I think it serves to remind you that with everything you do, you should do it as well as you can. Few people achieve their dreams by being mediocre. I think sometimes its easy to be discouraged, but this reminds you to give everything you care about 110%. Even on days where you feel drained, tired and weary.

My favorite is...“And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.”
    Anais Nin

It's my favorite because I have anxiety and panic issues. That quote has helped me "blossom".
