Someone has posted a 100 word paragraph onto their Facebook page. Would you consider this fair use or would you report it?
Report it. There should be zero tolerance for plagiarism.
Eugene, I'm curious. Are you finding your stolen content on your own or by way of HP adding the copyright circle by the title on your account page? The reason I ask is because since Maven has taken over the formatting, I don't have any new copyright violation notices showing on my account. My fear is that HP is no longer trolling the 'net and alerting us when our work has been plagiarized.
Occasionally I become aware of copied content because of the red copyright symbol, but usually I'm vigilant and search for extracts from top performing hubs regularly (or ones that aren't doing well sometimes). If I see a downwards trend in traffic in a hub I check too in case readers are being siphoned away to a copied version. I wish we could acknowledge those red copyright flags so it would be easier to notice new ones appearing. (or just send us an email if there's a new detection).
I'd ask them to credit and link it. I wouldn't consider that fair use.
I would also request them to reduce the length of the snippet they used.
I reported the content to Facebook. Of course they started nit-picking, even though I submitted the original and copied content's URLs:
"....it's not clear that you have rights to the reported content. In particular, it does not appear that you (or your client) created the reported content, or that you are otherwise authorized to submit this report"
So I posted a comment on the Facebook page telling them to remove it and it appears to be gone.
I've gotten the same response from Facebook when I found my poem "I Feel so Fat" on a Weight Watchers FB page. They (FB) were very disrespectful in their response. No matter that the URL and publish date of my original made it glaringly obvious that I'd been plagiarized. They just don't seem to care.
I had awful trouble with FB a couple of days ago. They kept disputing my claim. In the end, I copied and pasted both versions (and it was almost the full article text) into an email and attached a screenshot of the Copyscape results. Eventually they removed it.
Then I found another one. This time I included the Copyscape results in the original report and they took it down immediately.
I reported the same issue to Facebook and they gave me the exact same answer. It is disgusting.
I know. I quoted it back to them on Twitter and told them it was crap. Twitter, I've found is often a useful tool for embarrassing these companies and getting their attention.
No luck with FB so far. They just keep closing the case and ignoring me.
Truly disgusting.
I'm noting this for future references. Thanks.

I'm planning a hub about one particular actor in one particular scene of a movie. Without a visual representation of the actor in the scene the article would be meaningless, but no free or non-copyrighted photos appear to exist. To me this seems a classic case for Fair Use, as reflected in this...

After more than a year without publishing any hubs, I've decide to start publishing again. First two items on the agenda involved finishing an unpublished hub and responding to comments. Then I decided to investigate whether any of my hubs have been plagiarized and copied elsewhere during my...

Is it against copyright laws to take a photo of the cover or pictures inside my books to use in my hubs? or photos of portraits/paintings from unknown artists I have on my wall?

Some one has used a large portion (they copied and pasted 341 words to be exact) of one of my hubs on a facebook page and is claiming the use of the Fair Use Act. Unfortunately Google has picked this up and consequently is sending me 50 % less traffic for this particular hub which used to be my...

Today, I was surprised to see a picture of my Rottweilers on Facebook. Soon, I noticed it was one of my friends sharing one of my articles, but a big surprise awaited me. I click on the article, and it's not from hubpages! Basically, somebody copied my article and pictures, and people were sharing...

Someone here at HubPages has copied one of my articles. It was actually HubPages that added a copyright symbol letting me know. I flagged and notified HubPages of this but the story is still up. Why would I have to file a DMCA report when it's in house and HubPages knows about this violation? The...
