I have an odd situation. When someone comments on one of my Hubs that's on a niche site or on discover.hubpages.com, I can't create a reply comment. It logs me out of the site, and when I try to log into the niche or discover site it sends me back to the old hubpages.com. There's some sort of bug. Anyone else seeing this?
Until they restore the ability to comment directly on each article, go into your feed and look for the article. From there you can post a comment.
I've wondered about comments too. WHY is the ability to comment on most hubs disabled? It would seem a GOOD thing, so WHY not allow this?
They're working on incorporating comments into the Maven software. There were many forums where we voiced our displeasure with losing the ability to comment without jumping thru hoops by way of our feed. We were told that comments will be restored by the end of June. However, now that Samantha is leaving, I wonder if that will happen at all.
That's correct. The plan is to restore the ability to leave comments by the end of June.
They should get their act together and restore the ability to reply to comments on our articles. It's really annoying that we can't respond to comments.
I presume it's a technical problem and the website has to be changed and software infrastructure built not only to handle comments, but also display all the existing comments if it was easy I'm sure it would have been done by now but there's probably limited staff to do the work. Maybe Matt has to do it single-handedly.
The Maven could hire temporary contractors to do the work. The Maven is a larger company than HubPages was. I think they could fix it if they wanted to.
It's a shame because authors would like to respond to criticism or engage in discussions, plus it can generate more traffic for an article if there's an active discussion.
Just one of many things I don't understand. I've been here a LONG time, but didn't pay much attention this account for many years. Been back awhile cleaning up my account, editing like crazy and feel like there's maybe WAY more going on behind the scenes that I don't know about. The few things I DO know, concern me. This lack of attention to issue about comments is just one. Where ARE they? Do they hear these and other concerns?
I fear that with Samantha leaving, our concerns will go unheard.
Wow I just read an article here that makes me fear that timing for me to return here wanting a writing community couldn't be worse. Written about 6 months ago, and lots of good info in the comments too (back when comments ere allowed, I suppose).

That's my article, CrossCreations. I wrote it when the you-know-what was hitting the fan hard. I and a couple other hubbers wrote articles in protest. My article garnered 314 comments before it was moved to Discover. Frankly, given my rant, I was quite surprised to see it moved.
As you're finding out, HP is not what it once was.
hey THX @bravewarrior I learned a lot from that article, not good news but very informative. I had only a vague notion of the timeline of events, since I only came back here to beef up my account a few months ago. So far have only been editing and deleting old hubs, want to create new content but that doesn't look wise here. Forbidding comments is really bad, and that awful video is even worse. Knowing anything I write will be hit with both is not encouraging at all.
Matt has assured us comments will be reinstated by the end of June. However, I don't think anything will be done about the videos, unfortunately.
As far as I understand it, they didn't forbid them, it was just that the web template didn't allow them. The other Maven sites that have a similar appearance to Hubpages niche sites don't have an option for commenting either. I could be wrong though. Maybe staff had to fight with Maven to add them back in. We don't know what politics goes on behind the scenes.
Eugene, from what I understand, the software has to be modified in order to allow real-time commenting. We bitched loud and clear and Samantha fought on our behalf. She came back and said that comments will be implemented by the end of the second quarter. Once she announced she's leaving HP, I voiced the concern that her hard work may have been for naught. Matt came in today and reassured us that the ability to comment directly on each article will indeed happen by the end of June.
HubPages isn't the community it was 5 to 8 years ago. A lot of good writers have moved on for various reasons, mainly because of getting fed up with the constant changes that HubPages staff was forcing on writers, requiring them to update all their published Hubs (quite a chore if you have hundreds of articles). Also, HubPages got quite strict about content. While that goal was good to maintain a level of quality and to help with search results, they got so strict that it really made publishing here a chore. I stopped writing for about a year due to the onerous restrictions.
On the brighter side, they've loosened up a bit about content/publishing requirements to the point that it is no longer a hassle to me and I assume others. Also, the earnings have increased nicely since TheMaven took over. I'd say the community is not what it was in its heyday here, but this is still a good platform to publish on and monetize your writing.

What happened to comments capsule on hubs.

Why can't I respond more than once to the people that respond to a question I posed?I asked a question and people responded in a way I wanted to acknowledge. I responded once and when I tried to respond again I was not allowed! Ugh! I want to interact with the hubbers that answer the question and I...

I was quite stunned a week or more ago when someone made a statement on one of my hubs that she had commented twice and I had snubbed her by not replying. Her comment had been particularly flattering, and probably because I've spent a lifetime being flattered by others only to find that they wanted...

When I go to respond to a comment on one of my hubs, I just put my response in the comment section od that particular hub. Later, if I go back to that hub, I can see everyone elses comments they have left, but not my own responses. I am afraid that the people who commented are not seeing my...

Does everyone ALWAYS respond to comments on their hubs?Suddenly there seem to be a number of hubbers who are not replying to comments left, even after a week. Is this common? Do you always respond? I know I do; if I've missed anyone's comment then it hasn't been intentional...

Do you feel that people should respond to comments that are left for them on their hubs?i personally enjoy the feedbak left to me, as well as the opportunity to get to know my fellow "Hubbers" but I have noticed that there are many hub authors who do not respond at all or only selectively.
