"No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main... any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved with mankind; and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee."
    — John Donne

I had no idea that "no man is an island" and "for whom the bell tolls" are from one quote. I'm enlightened!

I love the photo. It's so peaceful. I can imagine the quiet with nothing but nature's songs to soothe the soul.

      Beautiful, Kenna!

This is one of my favorite quotes.  We are all connected. We are all one.

Kenna, I remember this quote from an undergraduate course that I took—17th Century Poetry and Prose. There was an emphasis on John Donne in the course, particularly on his Holy Sonnets. I also remember writing a number of research papers on John Donne's literary works.

Gregory, Have you thought about turning those research papers into an HP article? I often suggest that to my daughter. Also, most people remember "For who the bell tolls" because of Hemingway's book, but the full quote is so much more powerful. Thank you for sharing!

Kenna, I purged those research papers years ago. However, keep suggesting to your daughter to convert her college research papers into HP articles. She probably has a gold mine on hand.

I don't know when you wrote them. Today computers are a blessing for storing documents!

Thank you. Imagine what it would be like if we were all part of the main.

Wonderful. John Dunne I think was a contemporary of Milton. Both these poets created a renaissance in English poetry. Milton won immediate fame while John Donne was recognized much later.

How much better our world would be if more people absorbed these lines and acted accordingly.
