Editors are snippy!

What's on my mind, HP? Editors changing things -- AGAIN -- by removing important and well-placed photographs, rewriting titles, removing borders (which HP gives us the option to use), and altering text that has stood every test throughout publication, and ... why?  I am not talking about new articles.  I don't mind fixing punctuation to adhere to AP style (which I prefer), or adding/subtracting a few words. This is an editor's job and one I do myself. But the inconsistency has me baffled.  I've had HP editors tell me to make these pieces "flavorful" so the reader can share my experiences. So, I started writing more first person pieces with titles that can be part of a branded series. That was fine, no issues. But now, these titles are being changed for the generic stuff that everyone else uses.  If it made a difference in search engines, I get that but that's not what I see. When I started writing for HP (I think it was 2010), the site quality was awful until they hired editors, and I have seen a tremendous improvement since then. But the consistency is lacking.  Don't get me wrong, I love editors -- they see things I've missed and help me to clarify important points.  But I think the HP system should have a better way for writers and editors to work together.  Lately, they are re-tweaking things that other editors have already changed.  I almost think that's funny but not quite.  Well, that is all.  Thank you.

      Hello,

Thanks for surfacing these points. Our editing team is constantly refreshing and optimizing content for our authors. We know that refreshed and updated content performs well in search.

If you ever have questions about an edit, send us an e-mail at team@hubpages.com, and we can connect you with your editor. We are happy to collaborate or communicate what changes were made and why.

      Best,

      Tessa

That is well noted. It shows that HP with deal seriously with an editor that do make changes without geting the consent of the writer.                                                  Thanks, Tessa, thanks.

I hear you! About two years ago, I used to get some funky fixes and tweaks that I had to correct right away. Of late, HP edits helped my articles. These edits are minor points — stuff I didn't catch.
