I am not sure about you but the video disrupts the scrolling and viewing/reading of the article and I find it distracting and annoying.
Any chance of removing it?
No, it is placed there by Maven/HubPages. There is no way to opt out of it.
I think the OP wants to know if HP will get rid of it. Staff are already aware of the issue. But since it's been brought up again, I'll reiterate my viewpoint: If it brings in revenue, I'm for it.
I'm against it. I used to use my articles as an example of the quality of my writing, but I can't do that anymore. The ads cheapen the article, even thought they bring in money. In a way I can see the benefit of the first ad, but then to have it follow you down the page ticks me off. It's set up to be so annoying that readers will click on it just to get rid of it, which makes it tricky and manipulative. NOT a good thing for writers who have integrity!
That's pretty cute that you can think of "ethics" before you can think about making money, it takes a great deal of privilege to do so. I've grown up in America with a host of disadvantages, I know business and ethics have nothing to do with each other. The proof is undeniably all around us.
The thing is that there are a multitude of website and blog options without adverts. Those of us who want to earn have only limited options. Ads can be intrusive, I accept that, but this place is a business with a team dedicated maximizing revenue and I think that they likely know what they are doing.
It makes me chuckle every time this gets brought up, not because the idea is silly, but because so many people want the videos gone or reformatted to not cover the page.
Alas, "They have proven to perform well," according to HP/Maven. Many authors have pointed out, though: How can a video not perform well when it auto-plays and follows you down the page until you close it?
Just do your best to ignore it, because they don't care how ugly it is. At least they're working on more-relevant content to put on articles as far as the videos go. If they earn, they earn, as they say.
I think if you you turn off adverts it will go away? I've never tried it as I like to earn money.
Unfortunately, turning off ads doesn't work.
It has a class ID so it's possible to apply a custom CSS rule to set it to 'display:none'. All that does is make it so that it's not visible within that specific browser though.
It's important to note that many of the complaints about the video ad are from people here who only use the site on desktop, however. That doesn't reflect what the typical visitor is seeing.
The majority of traffic is mobile traffic. My traffic is nearly 90% mobile and even the niches that are still relatively desktop-heavy are about 70% mobile these days. Most visitors will see the decent mobile design, not the broken layout that appears on larger screens.
Thanks, everyone for your responses and comments.
@Matthew James: Yup, you are right it looks better on mobile. On the desktop, it almost covers your page and it takes a few clicks before it 'gets better' (can't think of any worse word for it)
@Kyler J Falk: I didn't know that this question was raised before. I was searching for it on the forum site but couldn't find it. Maybe wrong keyword.
@Sustainable Sue: I couldn't agree with you more.

I have a question about whether or not I should delete an article and re-write a whole new one with updated content and new images. The old article was published in 2013, has had one view in the last 30 days and has a total view count of 769. Also, it's not on a niche site.I want to delete the old...

I am new to hub pages and started a hub article the other evening. I saved the article as a draft, but did not publish. Today I noticed that a score had been attached to the article......Where did the score come from?

Thanks, John, for walking us through your journey of 13 years and 600 pieces on Hubpages.Your poem goes through the good times and then gradually through the deteriorating times when comments were eliminated, ratings were discontinued, and Google algorithms started playing havoc. I must also admire...

I was just wondering how successful people are with the Hubpages ad program and if anyone had managed to make payout in one day yet. I have yet to earn over $5 in one day from the ad program. How about everyone else?

I had a very successful article on another site. I'd like to publish it here. I unpublished it from that site about 3 weeks ago. How long should I wait before publishing it here? Thanks.

I just published a new article, "10 Things We Want to See in Elder Scrolls VI," but it hasn't shown up on my profile. I changed the settings so all articles, not only featured ones, appear on there. According to my Account, the article is currently 'published.' It might just be lag, but...
