It's supposed to be 3%, and I checked and they haven't changed the rate but I got 5% on some items: garden hose fittings and power monitoring adapters.
    Why would that be?

Sometimes products are in a different category on Amazon. Check the category of the product and not where you think it should be.

I was thinking that too. Sometimes it's either not what you expect or just seems wrong, that would be a fairly straightforward explanation, if true.

"Handmade" is the only and closest category in this table with a 5% rate.

I checked again and both sales are "3rd party" Is that non-Amazon?

    Yes, 3rd party is non-Amazon.

The products were on the Amazon website however. But maybe a store and not Amazon per-se? This is one of them.

Eugene, I buy from Amazon quite frequently. Sometimes, products for which I'm searching will have options for Amazon or 3rd party. I've bought from both, but none from an HP article link. Based on your query, I'd say there is a difference between what you earn directly from an Amazon product and those that are available thru Amazon but not distributed by them. It doesn't make sense that Amazon wouldn't take a take, but perhaps they do and the 3rd party simply offers a higher rate.

That said, congratulations on earning a bit more from a non-Amazon product sold on Amazon!

Third-party is nothing but a product shipped directly from the seller and not from an Amazon warehouse. Should in principle not affect the commission rate. On my own website, I get a lot of third-party sales with the same 4% rate.

This also seems to be in the gardening category. I wonder if the third-party has an option to offer a higher rate if they choose to as bravewarrior says.
