How many views did it take to earn your first $1?
How many articles did you published for the first dollar?
I can't remember how many articles and views I had to earn a dollar. I was and still is happy to earn a bit from my articles. Good luck to you.
First, you earn from impressions not views, though they are related. An impression is when someone sees a displayed ad. So, the more views the greater propensity for an impression. A rule of thumb is someone has to be on the article long enough for ads to load. In other words if they click away fast there is no impression.
Then the dollar amount for an impression is determined by the Cost Per Mille. (CPM), which in essence is how much an advertiser pays per 1,000 impressions. Mille means thousand. In other words if the CPM is $2 then when there are 1,000 impressions that is what you earn.
Now, CPM overall varies because advertisers pay at different rates. So, one day it may be $10 overall and the next $1. So, with the $10 it would take less impressions to make $1.
To see your impressions and CPM go to your account page and then go to the earnings page using the link at the top of the page. Then click on the Ad Program Reports link. There you will see impressions, CPM, and earnings.
To relate the views to impressions compare views at account page to impressions for the same time period. After that it is using math to see how many you will need.
That's a very clear and detailed explanation. I hope the question poster appreciates the time you spent explaining how it works.
Thanks Paul I know for me once I understood it it motivated me, though I haven't written in years now. Long story.
Hi tsmog! It's been a while. Good to see an oldtimer. Thank you for posting this, helpful to more than the OP.
Hello Jan! I've never really gone reading the forums daily with an occasional post. I read articles too. I haven't written anything since 2016 and deleted well over 100 unproductive articles. Hoping to start writing this year. Good to see you too!
Thank you so much for this information. It helped me to understand HB better
It took a month to earn $2 but more important to me at the time was that it took seven months for me to make payment. I probably published a hub a month at the time.
Many years ago, in my first month here, I had 173 views and earned about a dollar. I had 4 articles at that time.
For the fun of it, I actually looked all that information up. Turned out to be interesting. I didn't know a lot about writing on the Web back then. Just kind of wrote what I knew and what I liked. And earnings were slow.
Great journey !!. Thank you for sharing your experience
I remember I had published 5 articles in my first couple of months, and earned 49p. I don’t remember how many views though. I didn’t even understand anything about views & impressions or whatever, back then
All my earnings, if I remember well, was only from Google Adsense.
It depends on the number of ads that appear in your articles, how long do your readers stay in your article, and the country where your readers come from.

How long did it take you to make your first pay out and how many articles did you write until you did? I am only curious.

I'm not sure if this is still the effect of the pandemic, or simply it is February. But I was pretty happy that my daily views are increasing to 300 per day. But after hitting a new high of 400 views, all I get is 0.33 dollar earnings. That was no different than my 200 view per day last September....

Even taking into account Hubpages' share, with the amount of ads, shouldn't it be a multiple of views? I reckon, there should be about 6 impressions per article, but instead, there's only about .5 on average.

Some people have said they've turned off HP Ads and just use Adsense and actually make more money from Adsense. I'm considering trying that out and was curious how much more some of you are making just through Adsense. Fifty percent more? Twice as much? Triple? Quadruple?

How many views do your articles get a day and how many articles do you have?
