Heidi leads the way for anyone looking to understand the writing game and improve their chances of being "discovered."  Well done once again, my friend.  Peggy, thank you for posting this.

Bill, the writing game is tough. While we'd all like to be "discovered," the reality is that it's difficult to stand out from the noise. While I don't want to be a downer for authors, I hope it does help them look more realistically at their options. Thanks for chiming in and have a great day!

If your model is for fans to become readers and your book is about what your social media is about -- it's a good start and certainly an improvement on not trying to make an estimate.  (But that is often not the case.)  This is a useful exercise for new self-publishers deciding how much to spend on production and packaging.

Psycheskinner, indeed making an estimate without any base in social media or email lists is a pure guessing game. I totally agree that new self published authors, especially those who are doing it on their own and not using the likes of KDP, need to have some way to measure how much they can afford for printing, packaging, and other costs. Great point. Thanks for chiming in and your kind comments! Happy New Year!

Great info, Heidi.  1 percent will probably be disappointing to most authors hoping to sell their self-published book, but it’s a realistic estimate and authors need to know this.  As always, thank you for the great info, and thank you, Peggy, for posting.

Bill, let's face it, 1 percent is disappointing. But I guess I'd rather have a conservative estimate and then be happily surprised if it's better, than to have a ton of despair when things aren't going the way I expected. Glad you found it helpful. Appreciate your support, as always! Hope you had a great Christmas and Happy New Year!
