Do you think if text refers to an image, it should be above or below the accompanying text capsule?

That's a conundrum I've had for years smile

I always put the images below the descriptive paragraph.  My thinking is that once I have explained something, such as a flower form, then readers can see what I was describing.

That used to confuse me. I think it makes sense to put the text after the photo. This is where captions and attribution are placed on the pictures we use in our articles. In keeping with continuity and the way the human eye travels, photo first, followed by text.

Unrelated comment but I cannot find your old thread: What section do you post your threads on? I want to ask you if you deleted your hub that no longer has good traffic, and if you have republished.

I don't think there is a right answer. If I put the related text above an image, one of the editors will move it below. And vice versa if I had placed it below.

Then a few months later, another editor will change it back again to the order I had in the first place. Grrrrr!  roll

I have struggled with the same decisions. At first, I always put the image above the text, but for some time now I have felt the need to do the opposite. Though I am sure I read something from HubPages saying the first "feature" image should be before any text, so in most cases, I am obeying that.

I usually put the title image at the top, because it's like the "cover photo" for the article and usually has the title text or abbreviated version overlayed. I think it looks better than the alternative where there's an introductory paragraph, then when the reader just wants to get on with reading, this image their way (and possibly an ad also)

Agreed, I think this is best.

Normally I put them below, then say "see image below" or "see diagram below" if it's a diagram or photo with arrows (e.g. naming parts of an object). If I put it above the text, I think it may be confusing, because it's showing a reader something before they come across the explanation. It's a shame people seem to read everything on mobile devices. Once upon a time I used to tell them it would be better if they read the article on a computer because it would be easier to navigate. I might start doing that again for long guides.

If it is a list, I put the image above the text. It just seems cleaner that way. Readers can see the list items before reading about them.

If it a tutorial or something the reader might not be familiar with, I put the text first. The reader might not understand the significance of the image unless I explain it.

I have tried it different ways over the years and might change my mind again tomorrow. I miss when we could wrap text around images. That was helpful in some cases.

They say to put a picture first right now in the beginning of the article...after that, it's anybody's guess
