I asked this before possibly, but it would be really useful, if the stats are available, if earnings per article were shown on the statistics page. Then we wouldn't have to be wasting our time improving articles that may have lots of views but aren't earning much.

I agree, Eugene. That would be valuable information that we should be privy to.

I don't think that it's going to happen. There are either technical issues they don't want to deal with, or some other reasons. We're stuck with guesstimates based on the advertising values for the keywords we're chasing on individual articles.

Going off-topic (sorry), have you noticed another traffic drop recently? I'm hoping that it's an early August thing and not the impact of the latest Google update. My traffic and earnings are just abysmal nowadays, even when seasonal fluctuations are factored in.

I saw that on Semrush. Traffic for me dropped on Saturday to less than the previous Saturday's values, but Sunday's traffic was up a bit compared to the previous Sunday. The overall decline in traffic started last August and most of the algorithms seemed to reduce it further. Unlike all previous years, I had no peak in traffic during the summer.

I made the "mistake" yesterday of comparing year-on-year going back. I think I'm doing worse now (in relative terms) that at any point since the post-panda/subdomain period.

I've been writing my arse off over the past year. Every time I seem to be getting somewhere, Google seems to snuff out the spark. sad

Lets hope that the end of summer and all the Owlcation work that HP's doing brings some joy soon!

Last year was my best year for traffic and earnings over all time. When I brought up the subject earlier this year, we thought the pandemic and lockdown might have been responsible for high traffic/earnings last year and the drop due to things returning to normal this year. However things have transpired to be worse than they have been for many years.

I was just interested in the latest update really. My accounts tend to all react slightly differently, but I'd guess another 10% was lost.

One would expect a "products review" update to hit the amazon hubs mainly, but my figures don't seem to reflect that, certainly at first glance. The damage seems to be wider and less focused.

I guess a product reviews update affects the whole of a network site and articles that don't have any Amazon product reviews are affected as well.

Oh, I now see on SERoundtable that there was another update on Saturday. That was probably what you were referring to. I thought I was being hit by the tail-end of the products review update! It was maybe the Saturday one that did the damage...

It's back to school time in the US.  People are busy buying backpacks, pencils, new clothes etc.., and getting kids off for their first few weeks of school.  Perhaps things will bounce back in the next 2 weeks or so.

Traffic rates will definitely increase in the coming weeks for the reasons that you say. I see that as seasonal trend, not really meaningful.

It will still be less than at the same time of year in previous times, unless something changes.
