I noticed that Muck Rack has built a profile of me on their website (along with articles by another Eugene Brennan, lumped into the profile, but I requested they be removed). I can claim the profile. Would there be any point in doing this? Does the site have any authority that could be beneficial if Google ever reintroduces authorship?
I'm kind of confused about Muck Rack.
Is this a place that gathers our information without our knowledge & posts it for others to read?
Is it a good marketing tool that we should utilize ourselves?
Not sure why they put 2 of you together in one profile...someone made a big mistake.
What if other Eugene claims it.
I guess it uses AI to collate information into a profile and the AI goes wrong. Anyway I claimed the profile.
It doesn't gather any information other than the URLs where a person posts content. Probably a bit like Google Alerts.
You're there too Brenda.
Oh...I'll have to take a look.
I've never used them, but I guess they search the web
So....you claimed your profile.
Do you think this is good?
I just looked and they seem to have alot of my work posted.
I've no idea. Time will tell. It seems to really be for journalists, but if it gives us that attribute and classes us as journalists, maybe Google will think of us as being more authoritative. Google say Google Authorship is dead, but who knows what goes on behind the scenes.
It sounds so very intriguing and one can use for free if he desires.
I might claim mine too.
I did claim it, but I haven’t completed information yet
Brenda, when Muck Rack merges the profile that you create with the one that they previously generated, make sure that everything is correct and satisfactory to you.
In my case, Muck Rack messed everything up, and some of the pages that they created look more like "webpages under construction." (They are very unprofessional looking, to say the least.)
I have a laundry list of about five key points that they need to fix. Plus, they have still not yet removed the three articles that I did not write that are still on my profile.
In short, stay on top of Muck Rack until they get things right.
They seemed to fix things super fast for me though. I submitted corrections on several occasions and they were fixed within hours (Something today was fixed in 20 minutes).
Eugene, consider yourself lucky. For example, the email that I received from Muck Rack stated that they had removed the articles that I did not write. However, those articles were still there the last time that I checked.
I checked your profile and see that Muck Rack has you listed with several niche sites. With me, they only used ToughNickel, and I want them to include Hobbylark too.
Is it possible to add those ourselves manually to our profiles? I haven't fully investigated the profile setup procedure yet.
I don't know about that, but it would be fantastic if we could. In my case, Muck Rack added ToughNickel on their own. OK, I did submit six of my articles from ToughNickel, but I also submitted 16 more from Hobbylark.
Also, what did you use as a job title? Like you have said on this thread, Muck Rack might be looking at us as journalists, but I wonder if professional writer, author, or content creator would suffice as well. What are your thoughts?
I haven't really thought about it yet. I'm hoping somehow a profile gives a degree of authority/notability that Google's algorithm may use for ranking.
That sounds like an ideal situation. When I submit my list of corrections to Muck Rack, I'm going to ask them what they want me to use as a job title. And I'll certainly let you know what they have to say.
I would suggest having an email on Muck Rack that you don't mind getting tons of emails from random people, just in case your profile does take off.
Just as a precaution, I'd better change my contact email to a seldom-used Yahoo! account.
What method did you use asking them to make corrections? I think I used the chat feature, and things were corrected really fast.
I put that I was a freelance writer. I felt that signaled to people that I would be interested in working with them.
I used email as a means of communication. Also, I really like your job title as freelance writer. I just noticed on my Muck Rack profile that they have listed my articles under "Gregory DeVictor's Journalist Portfolio."
Thank you Gregory.
I haven't done anything yet, but you've gave me some great insight.
Eugene, I see that you have about five media outlets on your Muck Rack profile. Did you request that these outlets be added? They have ToughNickel as my only outlet, and I will have to ask them via chat to add Hobbylark and HubPages.
Oh yes, I looked at my Muck Rack profile this morning on a 32" monitor, and it looks a lot better than on my 15.6" Chromebook and, of course, my phone.
No, they just seemed to extract them from the various Hubpages network sites I write on. Some are missing though because I've written on 14 of the sites. I don't see anywhere that these can be edited. I had to request that some be removed because they were publications the other Eugene Brennan had written for.
Thanks for clarifying this. I just finished talking to Sean at Muck Rack about the auto fill issue. I get the impression that they might not be aware of it. At first, I thought that they had terminated my account. Just remember to manually enter your user name and password when logging in, and you shouldn't get that "Forbidden 403" error.
I submitted 25 of my HP articles to Muck Rack between yesterday and today. Well, I discovered that for eight of the articles, they have other authors listed for the articles besides me. I will probably just delete the articles rather than notifying the team about it. Be sure to check your articles regarding this matter. I hope that it didn't happen to you.
I tried Muck Rack. I had wrong articles that were posted to my name on the site, like you have, and I requested they be removed. After that was cleared up, I uploaded my favorite articles on there. Shortly after, they said they would feature my profile. Then I received a lot of emails from PR people. If you want to work with PR people, Muck Rack is great. People who want similar articles to what you have will come out of the woodwork.
This can be helpful if you’re trying to grow your articles and a list of contacts.
Muck Rack is useful for Journalists, but if you aren't in PR, it's just a nice source of backlinks.
I'm not in PR per se, but I like the way you can track the ones who read or share your work.
It sounds interesting
I've never heard of Muck Rack. I'll check it out.
Hey, Susannah! Good to see you.
If anyone is having a problem logging in to Muck Rack, please be aware that Muck Rack has an issue at their end with the auto fill feature. It is best that you manually log in to your Muck Rack account. Today, I was getting a "Forbidden 403" error message when I tried to log in using auto fill. When I manually entered my user name and password, everything worked out fine.
I sent an email request this morning to Muck Rack to remove a bunch of incorrect authors from the articles that I added to my portfolio. They took care of the matter in less than an hour.

I occasionally come across Muck Rack while writing for clients. It looks like a writer's/journalist resource service. It's not free. Anyone here uses it?

I did a search looking for an article on a blog I used to write for and came across Muck Rack. The site posted all my articles from my personal blogging site. Have any of you heard of Muck Rack? Is this good, bad, or illegal on their part? Should I complain?

I experienced a drop in earnings early in the year. As I've been here for eight years, I didn't worry about it, usually it stabilizes by Spring. But now it's April, and I am making about one third of what I was making a year ago, a huge disappointment.I have 142 articles and all of them have been...

You may be aware that the niche sites will be changing to a new style and layout. The first site to transition is Tatring.com. If you haven't already, take a look. One big change is that there's no longer a link to our HubPages profile, and no photo. Just your name and the...
