The number of ads almost overheated my computer one day and it started a safety shutdown process. I notice the fans go full blast on the niche sites because of all the animated ads and processing that has to be done. Hubpages sites are the only websites this happens on. Surely this isn't good? (and my fan intakes and outlets aren't blocked)
I just read one of my poems yesterday on LetterPile; I seriously didn't want to read my own work here. Too much distraction! Can you imagine all the ads were about sandals and shoes? I felt terrible because the poem was about God, and I hated how it was displayed. Such a shame!
Agreed. Those ads need to go above or below...not in between.
Turn them off and ask readers to send us money
I'm sure readers are just lining up to donate their whopping ten cents at lightning speed. Who wouldn't want to part with their hard-earned pocket change for the privilege of reading such masterpieces? Or why not just donate it to HP anyway, because clearly, they need all the spare change they can get?
Ok, tell them we'll murder their family if they don't send us money
How about an official letter from AI?
Subject: Request to Reduce the Number of Ads on Your Website
Dear HubPages,
I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to bring to your attention an issue that has been bothering many users of our platform, and to emphasize the importance of reducing the number of ads displayed on your platform.
First and foremost, I want to express my appreciation for the valuable content and services provided by our platform. It has undoubtedly become a reliable source of information and a platform for engaging with various topics. However, the abundance of advertisements has reached a point where it is significantly diminishing the overall user experience.
While I understand the necessity of generating revenue to sustain our operations, it is crucial to strike a balance between monetization and user satisfaction. The excessive number of ads on our site has resulted in a number of negative consequences:
1. User Experience: Excessive ads disrupt the browsing experience, making it difficult for users to focus on the content they came to consume. Intrusive pop-ups, auto-playing videos, and flashy banners distract users and create frustration.
2. Page Load Speed: Ads can significantly slow down the loading time of webpages, negatively impacting user experience. In today's fast-paced world, users expect quick and efficient access to information. Slow-loading pages can lead to user abandonment and discourage return visits.
3. Mobile Experience: With the increasing prevalence of mobile browsing, it is essential to optimize your website for smaller screens. Excessive ads on mobile devices can make it difficult to navigate and consume content, leading to frustration and a higher bounce rate.
4. Ad-Block Usage: The growing use of ad-blocking software is a direct response to the intrusive nature of ads. Users resort to such measures to regain control over their browsing experience. By reducing the number of ads, you can potentially encourage users to disable ad-blockers, thereby ensuring that your monetization efforts remain effective.
By addressing these concerns and taking steps to reduce the number of ads on our websites, you can significantly enhance the user experience and foster a positive relationship with our audience. Striving for a clean and uncluttered layout, reducing intrusive ad formats, and carefully selecting advertising partners can make a substantial difference in user satisfaction.
I understand that advertisements are an integral part of our revenue model, and I am not suggesting their complete elimination. Instead, I am advocating for a more balanced approach that prioritizes user experience without compromising the financial sustainability of your website.
I kindly request that you take these concerns into serious consideration and explore viable solutions to reduce the number of ads on our websites. By doing so, you will not only benefit your users but also foster a more engaged and loyal audience.
Thank you for your attention to this matter. I believe that by working together, we can create a more enjoyable and rewarding experience for everyone who visits our websites. I look forward to seeing positive changes in the near future.
Should you require any further input or assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me. I am more than willing to collaborate and support your efforts in any way I can.
Yours sincerely,
Kenna McHugh
AI is not bad, and I've tested it; actually, the HubPages auto system can't catch it if used creatively rather than for producing generic content.
True! The fact is ads for the platforms need creativity!
We have no say in the matter...
All we can do is let them know our reader's say they are too distracting.
Whoever is in charge of running Hubpages should be able to tell that people are only pulling up work for a quick glance and then they close it quickly.
Duh...they don't want the ads.
If they want to keep readers attention...they've got to find a way to make it less distracting.
Besides that...
They should honor a Writer's work without cluttering it up.
You've hit the nail on the head Brenda. Aside from being poor business practice in the extreme, TAG show complete disdain to the writers of the work they display by continuing with their abominable ad placement regime.
If I could transfer my 400 + articles tomorrow to a new, quality, monetised site managed by sensible people I would. Anyone out there with entrepreneurial skills, technical knowhow and time on their hands to create a viable alternative to what we have now?
Trust me lot of people tried to dabble into such project. Zujava, Wizzly, Knoji, and countless other sites were started by hubpages users. And due to google updates and the low adsense output and inconsistent traffic eventually all of them either dying or closed before 2018. Hubpages has survived due to a lot of testing. Trust me content+adsense combo as a person trying to do on his own is not an option worth going for unless you have 10 plus team working for you.

After two years of non-stop decline, traffic hit a new low today, less than what it would normally be on Christmas Day.

Why am I not getting approved for Google AdSense? I am a former squidoo member. I have 300 pages (many of which rank in the 80's-100's according to the hubpage ranking), and they are all legitimate pages (not sales-oriented or lacking in sufficient words). Some of the pages received...

I would like to see a daily or weekly or even monthly list of words that Hubbers should avoid using (if they want Google Adsense on their Hubs). It would be helpful I think to many writers who don't want to spend hours writing a Hub only to find out they used a 'banned' word in the copy or a word...

It's no secret that many Hubbers have been hit by the recent Google 'Panda 4.1' update. Panda is one of Google's key quality algorithms that assesses your content for certain signals that indicate that your readers are happy with the site and user experience offered. If you noticed a sharp traffic...

This has happened to me a few times. I'll leave a comment or give an answer in the Q&A section... and I will get attacked (for lack of a better word) by some other Hubber who has a different point of view or belief than I do.It hurts, I mean hurts. There I am trying to be a good...

I have a hub about homosexuality in monarch butterflies with ads for books on Amazon about homosexuality in animals, however, ads have been disabled and in the warning why details it says: "Because this Hub was identified manually, and not through our automatic filter, this status will not...
