Just when a new article starts doing well, an earlier article that was doing consistently well starts losing views - like from 25 views/day to zero views.
My total views don't increase even if I write regularly. Why would this happen?
By any chance are the articles you're referring to on niche sites or Discover?
Yes. In one instance both were on the same network site. In another instance, old and new were on different networking sites.
What I have found is that if one of my articles only gets published on Discover, I get very few hits. If I get on the front page of a niche site, especially if I get the cover story, I'll get a lot of hits until I'm no longer on the front page. Then the hits plummet.
Writing articles online can be a bit of a hit and miss activity as you perhaps already know but it's encouraging to see that you've had partial success with your work.
With HP you need patience and consistency to build a decent audience and retain good levels of traffic. So I recommend you keep writing quality articles on the subject you love and in theory at least your views will increase and earnings should follow. But it's never straightforward - some articles will excel, others divebomb. There are many reasons as to why: subject matter, quality and length of article, competition, Google updates.....
To give yourself a good chance of success create a load of evergreen articles, long and short, and give them time to mature. Review your progress. What works best? Longer articles on a specialist topic or a more generic approach? Catch up with info at the Learning Center.
I'm not quite sure if the new article you mention is on a different topic to the earlier one. I presume it is. Remember that individual articles can gain a lot of views, a spike, in a short time depending on where that traffic comes from. Many can visit your article for seconds then leave. What's best on HP is to have steady organic traffic, medium to long term viewing on a sustained basis.
At present HP (owned by TAG) is going through a tough time. Frequent Google updates are hitting the niche sites like never before so we have to ride the storm and hope things get better soon.
Onward and upward. Good luck for future writing and views.
It's cold comfort, but if you keep writing for a year or more you will find that a few articles "take off" while the rest just sit there. In my experience it's nearly impossible to predict which ones will soar, so I just keep writing. As others have suggested, if you enjoy writing and find it meaningful, then the views will come, just not necessarily from the stories you expect. I have articles that get close to 1,000 views a day, and many many more that get fewer than 10.
Thanks so much for the detailed reply. Guess will just have to keep writing.
Go for it!
For only being here a few months, you've done a lot of work. I think you'll do better and better with time.
It's far from easy right now when considering everything going on, but I still believe in HubPages and that the time spent writing here is well worth the effort.
It doesn't hurt that there's a nice community of writers here. It's always nice to do a bit of chit-chat and "complain" together.
Enjoy your time here, and best of luck!
Thanks a lot! hehe, you are right about the nice community here. Was wondering if I was doing something wrong. But yes, nothing is easy I suppose. Good luck to you too!
You know what they say: If it was easy, everybody would do it.
Thank you for your wishes!
Yes. I've noticed that too. Just that the two articles were on different niche sites and wasn't sure why the views for an earlier article would suddenly drop. Maybe it was just a coiincidence. Like how some others have mentioned here, guess will just keep writing. Probably views will come with time. Thanks for your mail.

I check my dashboard a couple times a day, and recently I noticed that several of my articles are no longer counting views. I know this because it shows no views in the last 30 days, when in fact I've seen views on each of the articles during that time on a consistent basis.

I am experiencing an overall average off 66 percent less page views per day, for seven days versus a week previous and for the past two months. Such a huge drop in page views makes me think that Google has tuned up something again. I do know that I don't have the time and energy to keep...

This is for new hubbers and old hubbers alike: don't become a victim of worry and negativity. There is always a random amount of chaos out there. You could have a hub get 1500 views a day for no reason whatsoever, even if it is written a lot worse than a hub with a 3,000 word count that gets 10...

Since I migrated here from Squidoo two months ago, I've seen a steady stream of threads in this forum, complaining about lost page views. There are a lot of theories about why it's happening, and how much it's happening, and what can be done to get into Google's good graces.Google is not my #1...

I am very excited to claim this many page views! I have been on HP for over a year, and to many, this # may seem somewhat pitiful, but it's hard work to become known on any writing site, and I am thrilled that my words have been viewed over 7,000 times!I really love this site.

I’d like to start by explaining that my articles are all published to niche sites except one which is still pending consideration. I’ve edited and revamped these articles to death. I’ve waited for these changes to kick in despite that, less than 30 views per day on some that seem to perform on a...
