I requested that my articles be removed from Dengarden on Aug 16, and they have yet to be moved. Does anyone know how long it usually takes?
TIA
My guess is by or before Oct 31st. I have yet to submit my request because they are still generating income for the niche site.
I made my request on the 16th as well. On 8/21/2024 Lisa emailed me to let me know she'd made the move.
I put in a request yesterday and they were moved today. It was about 80 articles.
I would be interested to know the impact of moving your 80 articles, Andrea. Please would you post here to let us know if you see an immediate increase, or decrease in traffic?
I’ll keep an eye on it. I might wait a week to see how it pans out.
I put my request in on Saturday the 17th and they were moved Wednesday the 21st.
There's no precedent for this mass migration so I don't think there's an answer to "how long it usually takes."
So I guess it's a case of the sooner, the better, but ultimately, I don't care when my stuff's moved as long as it's done by the end of October deadline.
Hopefully, it will be done well before then.
I made my request on 8/18/2024 to move all my articles on Pethelpful and Dengarden to Discover and then on 8/21/2024 I got a Notification About a Quick Edit to Your Article on PetHelpful.
Why on earth would they edit an article three days after my request to move them all to Discover? Up till now nothing has been moved yet as far as I can see.
I emailed my request, and Lisa moved my articles over right away. Perhaps yours is better, and they want to keep them as long as possible.
Things could have changed, again. Going by the trimmed About page, we do not know whether Lisa is still with Hubpages/TAG. Matt is perhaps the only person working on it.
Lisa has an Arena Group email. I am pretty sure she's still around.
Does that mean all the editors were moved to Arena? Or just Lisa?
I don't know, but I speculate that HP editors still use the HubPages email address.
I'm not certain, but I think Lisa has always been with TAG. My thought is that she's only recently appeared in the forums so we can be advised of the changes that are being implemented to the HP format. She's on the "inside" and has been very forthright and helpful to those of us who are still here. She seems to be the only one who has had concern for - and has actually addressed - the questions/uncertainties that have been percolating in the HP world of contributors for the last several years.
Who knows about the other editors? Perhaps they've been booted or made an offer they can't refuse.
I give kudos to Lisa for coming forth and addressing our concerns. At least we're not left out in the cold. However, the remaining HP contributors who do no frequent the forums may be in for a rude awakening.
I am happy that Lisa has been trying to communicate with us and do the tough balancing act that she has had to do. I do not envy her position.
I do wish there was an explanation as to the staff page. Sometimes HP or Arena needs to spill the beans before we notice odd things. I think we’re all on the same page about those kind of issues.
I communicated with Lisa last year and her email was a TAG one.
I think there's also the likelihood that she was redeployed and is no longer involved with our concerns.
She emailed me a couple of days ago after moving my articles.
The only direct contact I've had with her was 4 years ago, she had a Maven email back then! Hehe!
I will consider emailing her if my Den and Pet articles aren't moved to Discover within a reasonable time.
Paul, they won't be moved unless you request them to be from what Lisa stated in the initial post. They'll be thrown into a deep black hole if you don't request they be moved to Discover where you can possibly earn pennies.
I appreciate your concern, Shauna. However, I already posted about emailing the editors in this thread.
The main reason that I visit the forum is to keep up with official announcements.
I requested August 19th and nothing's happened so far. I have 10 accounts so there are a lot of articles to be moved, but even so I'd rather they got it over with ASAP
Her email to me was from and Arena Group email address.
If it was that simple: Beam me up, Scotty.
I got an email today from HP to inform me about the upcoming changes to Dengarden, Pethelpful and Discover. Same editors@hubpages.com email address. So I forwarded my email from the 18th and asked them if they had forgotten to move my articles to Discover.
Now I'll sit and wait. I should at least get a confirmation email I think.
Noticed a huge dive in views on my top hub. It's half of what it has been for ages. I wonder if that's a result of the last edit it got.
I have also requrested a move for only one Pet article; thus far, nothing has happened. I will wait until October 31st to see how all of this and a few other transfers plays out. (Most of mine are on LetterPile.) In view of the down-sizing in staff, I can't help but feel a little sorry for Matt and company.
I had two articles in Dengarden. Instead of asking to move them to Discover and dealing with the delays I see others are experiencing, I deleted them and published them on my own website where I earn revenue from AdSense and Amazon.
Hi Glenn several years ago Marisa helped me set up a web site but I just let it slip away since the traffic was less than stellar. I am considering setting up something again. Do you have any hosting suggestions?
Dr. Mark, I would have thought TAG would want you to stay on with the new PetHelpful? Is that not the case? You have to move all your articles elsewhere too?
Yes, I do plan to stay. Your articles are great só I am not sure why they have not yet reached out to you.
So pleased you’re staying. And thanks for the kind comment. I was told I would be able to “apply” to be a contributor going forward, but they won’t compensate me for any of my existing articles. I’ll have to move them to Discover. It makes no sense whatsoever since many are on page one of Google and generate excellent revenue.
Hi Mark, as far as suggesting a website host, I have switched around several time since none of them are perfect. But I’m presently using HostGator and so far they have been okay. I just need to point my domain to the new host whenever I switch.
I write the HTML code myself, so I have full control of placing the ads where I want them to appear so as not to interfere with reader friendliness. I like to limit their location to positions between subtitled sections. That’s what HubPages did before Maven/TAG screwed it all up. That worked then, and it works for me now on my site.
I just left Hostgator as they more than doubled my monthly hosting costs with no notice. It wasn't that it was too expensive, it was the way they did it. When I contacted customer services and queried it, I said, "So you increased my payments by 110 per cent?" she said, "That's right".
So I looked around for a bit and decided to do something completely different. Closed down my two Wordpress sites and started up a site on Notion.
Notion is a productivity app that now allows you to publish pages as a website. I had an account with them anyway. There are many YouTube videos that show how to do it. So much easier than wrestling with Wordpress and all the legal and technical requirements.
And at a quarter of the price of HG. You can start off with a free account to become familiar with the Notion platform but you need a paid account to publish web pages. I even use a Notion page as my browser home page.
Oh, and many writers use it to write instead of Word or whatever. Capture research, store drafts and images. It's that unicorn that does everything. There's an offline app that works on phone, tablet, and PC. Like everything worthwhile, you need to spend time learning it.

That experience you had is strange. Sorry to hear you had trouble. Maybe they charged you more because you were using Wordpress. They probably charge for that.
I pay for three years at a time for hosting with Hostgator, and was able to negotiate a lower price than anyone else was charging. Few hosts are willing to negotiate.
I looked at Notion per your link and had two issues with it. I prefer not using templates because I like to program my own code. The other problem with Notion is that they charge $10 a month if you want to use your own custom domain. $120 a year is overpriced. I like using my own name for my domain. Domains are cheap. I pay only $7 a year for mine and therefore I prepayed for ten years so I don’t have to think about it for a while.
HG don't charge more for using WP. I paid monthly because I wanted the flexibility of being able to shift hosts if I needed to. And, at the time of setting up, I couldn't have afforded multi-years' hosting. Monthly was pretty affordable back then.
You don't need templates to use Notion. In fact, I've never used one. They use blocks in a similar way to the new-ish WP editor and Medium. And I never have to worry about compliance with the necessary regs (GDPR. cookies, etc.) as it's all taken care of. I've even added Google Analytics.
And, of course, if you are setting up WP, you need to use a theme, which is a complicated template. Also Adsense, which can turn the site into an advertising hoarding
I got around the custom domain thing by simply redirecting my existing domains at the Notion sites. I also bought a corresponding .co.uk domain for five years which also points to the site.
I monetise the channel by adding Amazon and Ko-Fi. I could also add other streams as I get it going (too much other stuff happening at the moment).
So I pay Notion £12 per month for unlimited domains and the use of it as a multi-functional app, to which I can invite people to collaborate on projects. I even use a Notion page as my browser homepage, complete with DDG, a Startme bookmarking widget, and easy access to all my other pages.
There's always a way
My browser page
Bev,
I guess that’s why you paid much more. Hostgator gives discounts for longer commitments.
To address your other points:
I understand what you’re saying about the advantages of the tools Notion provides. And that is extremely helpful for most people. However, since I have a programming background as a systems analyst, I feel comfortable writing my own code. In doing so, I have included Google Analytics, AdSense, and Amazon affiliate. And with AdSense and Amazon I can place the ads where I want them.
I know you referred to it as “advertising hoarding.” But that is only when you use Google’s automatic ad placement option. I experimented with that in the past, but it was like what TAG is doing with our hubs—ads everywhere! So, I disabled that option and simply placed the ad code in each spot where I wanted it in my articles.
I did also install code for the EU compliance. But I needed to include tracking in that option, and most people opted out of tracking. I lost the ability to know how well my pages worked (readership, retention, geographics, etc.). So, I temporarily removed that since most of my traffic is from the US anyway. Theoretically, that decision causes AdSense to be disabled in the EU without monetizing from EU traffic, but that’s okay with me.
I routinely check Google’s policy center on my account to be sure they are satisfied with my compliance. So far, things are fine, and they say they are serving ads everywhere—all the better.
As for you, it’s great that Notion does the cookie compliance for you. When I did mine, I had to study how to write the code that Google accepted in order to comply. It was a lot of work. And it had to cover other things, too, not just cookies. I also had to allow visitors to opt out of tracking if they chose to do so.
So, it’s terrific that you found a solution that works. I can see it gives you the time to focus on the more important aspects, such as your art, writing content, and tarot readings, instead of worrying about coding.
I examined your site via the home link on your HubPages profile. (I put mine on my profile too). Your site looks great and has a very pleasing layout. You did a great job, Bev! The way you handle things will help you continue your endeavors even if TAG/HubPages ceases to exist.
Like you said, There’s always a way!
Yes, it wasn't really about the amount, but the way HG did it. And also, yes, I struggled with a lot of the coding stuff, although I always managed it in the end. It was a pretty site and always paid for itself plus a bit extra
I had Google dashboard (or whatever it's called) installed and that helped quite a bit.
You’re an excellent self-learner, Bev. It’s no surprise that you “managed it in the end.”
I presume that if the articles are moved to Discover, we will still have control of them and can delete and republish them somewhere else at any stage.
If we let HP use them for their new site, it's unclear to me if we would still have the option.
Either way, the deadline date is a big deal.
From Lisa in the other long thread:
“I want to address some of the questions I see from many of you.
On Oct. 31st, PetHelpful and Dengarden are going to be in a different CMS that we use at The Arena Group. Authors will no longer have access to their articles on PetHelpful and Dengarden starting on that date.
Discover HubPages will continue to be moderated but will not be edited. (We've only ever edited content on Network Sites.)
I am moving articles as the requests come in. It usually takes a day or two for the articles to move, so please be patient. I'll email you once the move is complete.
Initially, becoming a contributor was only going to be by invitation, but we're coming up with a way for authors to have the ability to apply to be a contributor. I'll post more about that when I have more info.”
Yes, I read that. I requested that my articles be moved around that time.
The move certainly hasn't taken "a day or two" in my case. It's approaching two weeks now without any action or reply.
I guess I'll email and ask for an update in the very near future.
I think with the shrinking staff some of the emails may have been overlooked. Mine were moved quickly. I agree with sending another email.
I posted the above information since you said it was unclear if we had control of articles if they moved over to the new site. The answer is no, you wouldn’t have access to them. Perhaps you could request they be pulled off… but that sounds like that might be challenging at that stage. I think you’re already aware and working toward getting articles moved toward Discover.
For me, everything's in a state of flux and unclear. I don't read a staff comment and see it as something set in stone. Often the rules change from day to day, or they say one thing and then, for whatever reason, it doesn't happen.
Hopefully, I will receive some direct communication from staff in the near future. However, my main aim, at least in the short term, is to get my articles moved to Discover. It's unclear to me why that hasn't already happened.
Lisa posted something new in the super thread about sending to her email. Did you catch it? I understand that things are inconsistent and constantly changing, so I think your approach is sane.
I received an email from Hubpages today that my articles have been moved.
Thank you all for your responses!

I'm not sure if this is a good change or not, but in my 4 years here the earnings have never gone up to more than 0.01 or 0.02 the highest probably 0.08 . After the move, the earnings i get is getting 0.16 or 0.18 $ at most, is it real or could it be a bug? Should i feel great about it?

How long should one wait before declaring a hub dead traffic-wise and deleting/moving it?This is premised on the assumption that the thing has already been tweaked and updated to death.1 year?2 years?3 years?4 years?5 years?I'm curious as to how many answers would be the same as my current best...

I started writing on this site a few months after my 18th birthday, back in 2018. I'd always loved writing and was excited to hone my skills and share articles with others. At the beginning I was only making a few cents a day, but I remember it being incredibly exciting. A few cents that I'd earned...
