Yesterday I was confidant that e-mailing HP staff would result in the ads being turned back on, on the four hubs (and counting) of mine that have had their ads disabled. This was not the case, and I was told by HP staff that all four would remain ad-less for being against the Google TOS.
Do you have any hubs that HP have refused to turn the ads back on following moderation, and what are they?
Link them below as I'm interested to see what they're classing as against the TOS.
I don't know if you had seen this or not. It is a number of days old, and was stickied at the top for a day or so.
http://hubpages.com/forum/topic/44355
Apparently there is a new TOS and so the ads are automatically disabled. I haven't had this happen personally that I know of but it has happened to quite a few hubbers. I have had some YOUTUBE videos removed for violation of TOS and they were not what I would call a violation, but that is not my call.
Apparently there is also a forum of complaints:
http://hubpages.com/forum/topic/44782#post1039374
I have got some 5-6 hubs ads disabled.. , then I started to edited some words and edited that page and 3 Hubs were cleared and ads are being shown.
The words like Sexy, cum, sex, porn etc..
either in the title or in the para..
It does appear that a single 'adult' word could be enough under these new rules to get ads disabled.
I guess I'll have to stick to writing 'Buy a Food Processor Online' style hubs here at HP, and take the good stuff elsewhere.
'Buy a Food Processor Online'? LOL. It's a good one, It won't be long until we're all fighting over gems like that.
No site can ever have too many articles about buying food processors online, surely.
Well, let's split it up.
I'll do processors with extra attachments, you do the ones colored red.
Kidding of course
I had one flagged hub. They moderated it and put the ads back. (It's about impotence.)
I think somebody already beat me to red.
http://hubpages.com/hub/Red-Kitchen-Appliances
One word won't do it. It's based on the concentration of a lot of different words, factoring in their varying degrees of "danger" from an ad placement perspective.
Sounds a lot like eBays QPC formula. And most of the internet is still trying to figure that one out.
Any comment on the whole ladyboy thing? I know there was a small amount of colorful language, but probably less than in the other hub that I was given the option to re-write. Just curious.
No comment? Don't worry, I didn't expect you to touch that one with a ten foot pole.
I am a little curious though as to why ads were returned to my top hub after starting this thread yesterday, and then disabled again by the time I woke this morning. All with no communication with myself whatsoever.
Very disappointed.
I can understand why. It's not good, nor fair. For once I'm a bit disappointed. I still have absolutely no ads on mine, despite the fact that it was Friday when I informed HP of the problem.
I'm maddened by the fact that my hub has A)tripped the filter without my knowing - the symbol $ didn't work, therefore I found out by accident, and B)that it was passed (anyway - and quickly so yes, thankyou HP) as fine yet due to a glitch the ads remain off.
Friday, Saturday and Sunday tend to be the best days for that hub. For me at least. I feel kinda for us Mr Voodoo.
For HP, they did respond asap to my query email and they are aware. I have no complaints there. However this needs sorting at the soonest. I dislike feeling impotent
I feel for us too. And like yourself I only found out about this by accident. And I've certainly noticed a drop in earnings due to it.
And I gotta say, the fact that you're so upset about this shows how serious this is, because you are by nature one very forgiving placid frog.
I guess the message is 'Don't mess with our money!' We appreciate the great platform you've provided for us HP, and because of that we're fine with the 40% (of impressions) you take. But we work hard here too, and do not appreciate our income streams being disabled without warning or explanation.
I have only had one but it is interesting to note that I have several on the topic but only one was disabled.
http://hubpages.com/hub/No-Rest-For-The-Rape-Victim
What's more frustrating is that the moderators re-enabled the ads but I chose to edit anyway to avoid future misunderstandings and, in doing so, the automatic filter kicked it back again, disabling my ads once more. I don't understand it but I guess I will in time.
Thank you for sharing.
I read your hub and am sorry for your pain, and can only hope that you take some comfort from the fact that no doubt those who stumble across it who have found themselves in the same terrible situation leave your writing feeling a little less alone. And the rest of us leave a little more educated.
And whilst I'm sure Adsense wasn't your purpose for writing this hub, I'm guessing that following moderation ads will be turned back on. As there certainly seems to be nothing contained within that goes against Adsense TOS.
Take good care.
Thank you. You are very kind. Evidently it is the word 'rape' that keeps getting it caught in the filters. You are right about Adsense, I write mainly to write, if I make a little something on the side that's great but if not, I'm not hurt.
The word Rape might have raped your ads.. better replace some other word,..
I have had 4 hubs that have been taken down according to the new TOS agreements. However, I have managed to work with HubPages staff and find out exactly what I need to change to make them ad worthy again.
And, now I do not have any hubs presently published were ads are disabled. I have about 6 in the unpublished mode that are already against TOS agreements/HubPages rules, however, that is simply because they are unfinished.
Glad to hear you got yours sorted out, and back on track.
I have one that I have been given the option to re-write, but the other three have been dumped. Although strangely one of those dumped contained language no more 'colorful' than the one I was given the option to re-write. But the option to re-write was not given in this instance as the topic was 'Lady Boys', and I'm not quite sure why that has been deemed to be adult, as they are a large part of the population in Thailand, and are even known as the 'third gender'. To label an entire sub-culture as being of an 'adult' nature almost smacks of sexism/racism.
Sad, I really liked Lady Boys. I guess it is on the order of don't ask don't tell. Perhaps if you titled it Thai Beauty Contestants it would have been okay? Just because that is what they are? What is there was a hub about Female Impersonators and Entertainment. I had been about to do one a few months ago. Milton Berl, Flip Wilson, Tony Curtis, Jack Lemmon, Tom Hanks... I think the problem is your Lady Boys actually look like ladies.
It is adult because it borders on the stereotypical "multi-gender", like transvestites and such.
Nothing sexism or even racist about it. I saw your title topic "Lady boys" and instant thought of adult content as well.
I'm not sure I understand what you're saying. That transvestites are sexual deviants? and / or are solely the product of an adult industry. Not putting words in your mouth, just a little confused by what you meant.
In Thailand you'll find lady boys working in Mc'Donalds, in offices, and everywhere else. I suspect if an article were labeled as being 'adult' simply for writing about homosexuals (for example) there would be serious implications.
But perhaps I've misunderstood.
I haven't had any removed as of yet, most of my work is pretty kosher though.
Ads have been disabled on one of mine. I didn't actually know, there's a bug in (my) system. Beyond that the hub was reinstated for ads - but they're not working. I guess I'm going to lose out quite a bit because they've been off a few days now. It is a glitch - the ads should be on there. All I have is PSA's.
I'm not happy but what can be done. I'm aware that HP are on with the problem. I'm slightly about it because the hub just tripped the alarm is all. Now I feel as though I'm the loser for something beyond my control.
The new system is better. I don't doubt that. But when your ads are disabled then reinstated - I think it better that something else then trips the system to alert HP (the same as the filter works for potential TOS breaches) that the ads are not actually reinstated. I found out about mine by accident, and had to point out the problem.
Ho hum
I feel your pain FD. I appreciate the intent behind the new system. But don't appreciate that some of the work I've spent the last year investing time in here has been time wasted.
And with the recent closure / cheating of users out of their earnings by some of the other revenue sharing sites these last few months I'm starting to wonder how future safe HP is as an earning platform.
But then as you say, nothing can be done about it. We either suck it up or move on. The choice is ours.
I hope you get it all sorted.
I'm thinking you're talking not just the considered writing of your work but the off-page stuff too. I have backlinked my hub. I didn't just write it and forget it existed. I worked on it from the off. I know it will be sorted but you know - the ads aren't on there because of a glitch.
I feel your pain. I don't feel too good that my hub's offline because something's been overlooked. Yours sound as though they may well be worse off than my one. And when you factor in the work, as you rightly point out. It's not great.
I more bothered that the longer the ads are off the less it earns this month. I want to push buttons, prod software engineers, kick the cat
Exactly FD, some of these hubs have been up for over a year, and in that time both through my own work and through the back-linking of visitors they do fairly well now. Or rather they did.
I hope this glitch doesn't affect your monthly earnings too much FD (as I suspect to you as with me the stability and growth of these earnings has become quite important). And that it gets fixed soon.
I'll hold the cat down, you kick it.
Oooooo erm ... I can't kick that kitty. lol I feel way too mean even thinking about it
And I totally understand your feelings. These days I generally do the research before writing. I work hard at my hubs. I hope we both get sorted because I am like you - what I do here is important
I have 2 - One that has been around for a couple of months on aromatherapy that already had the right adsense ads. The other I just posted a few days ago while the new rules were being established. (Was careful not to use any words that were not being shown on sites with google adsense).
Needless to say, it has a nice hub score already, over 300 views, but I'm not going to start advertising or backlinking it until the adsense is released.
Guess we all have to endure a little pain, until the kinks can be worked out of the new system that will be for our "greater good".
Nah, not me. None of my hubs is affected so far - I feel as an outcast LOL
lol! Now were any of yours ad disabled you'd be really feeling it! I hope it never happens to you Misha
My hub on Marital Rape had them disabled a few days ago, but they seem to have been reinstated without me doing anything about it. Now my hub on the Sarah Palin rape kit controversy has been picked up instead. "Rape" is obviously a trigger word.
One of my hubs on LGBT issues also got picked up, probably due to its repeated use of the word "fetish". It's not a fetish hub, but I can see how a Google bot might conclude it is, so I'm just going to leave the ads off that one.
Its interesting that adault words can have ads disabled - and yet many of the ads they place are for contacting women or gays - and not for a tea party - strange logic
Well I'm kinda frustrated by it. I figure everyone adversely affected by it would be. My adsense is way down for the first week of the month for one - and I'm not alone from what I can tell.
It does suck. I think others are worse affected. Sunforged is feeling the sting from what I can tell.
To be fair, HP has got to move forward and protect the integrity of the site. You know Mr Voodoo, I am kinda sick of some of the exceedingly vile pictures I come across. I have flagged some in the past because to my trained eyes - they've had children posing in them
That's not good for HP, you, me or anyone else.
So that, and others that spoil the site, spam it and generally denigrate it are our real problem, not HP. To that end, I support what they're doing.
But you know ... I'm still maddened that I can't do anything and the days are passing.
As for the lack of notice I suppose that is part of the whole glitch. We do work hard huh? We all do. I'm going to go buy a nice bottle of wine and drink it
I think 'frustrated' is the perfect word, and there's not much more can be said about it. So I may join you in opening a bottle of wine, and moving on.
I don't tend to hub-hop etc. often, so don't really come across the type of hubs you mentioned above, but if such things are here then they should certainly be flagged and removed.
I've no doubt that HP does have our best interests at heart, because despite my whining I do love HP. But like you I'm frustrated.
Anyways, I'll shut up now, because for one I don't think anybody is listening, and secondly it's more than possible, that I'm arguing to have something that's in my best interests overturned.
C'est La Vie
One of my hubs (about stockings) has been flagged and I've removed every possible 'offensive' word such as sex or bondage but it is still reflagged. The really annoying thing is that sometimes the flag goes away but then returns again later. I've even tried disabling Amazon and Ebay ads but flag is still there.
What we need to know is which specific words can't we use. Or is it based on percentage use of a 'naughty' word or words? I've sent a query to HubPages but no response so far.
(just noticed Maddie's post - gather it is more complex than just single key words but combinations and numbers of words - help!)
I'm usually supportive of HubPages staff but this is ridiculous - if I knew the 'rule' I was breaking I'd comply!
I'm frustrated too froggie and would welcome a glass or two of that frog wine!
well.. it looks that most of the hubs will be deleted if it gets old.. and there is no traffic to that page..

I have a hub about Suicide on the Golden Gate Bridge that was published in 2009 and has been read more than 71,000 times and another on the status of the Golden Gate Suicide Barrier that was published in 2011. Ads on both of these hubs were just disabled today (05-19-13), can anyone tell me why?...

I know there have been a lot of changes in the air in the past 10 or so days... There was another big Panda update... then the stinkin' Penguin and all. And, HP has been tinkering around with the design of pages. My traffic has remained relatively constant through it all. But, over...

Now don't get me wrong, I totally love writing on Hubpages and being a part of the Hubbing community, but I have lost a little heart recently when one hub of mine on "How to Improve Male Fertility" had the ads disabled based on automatic filters. This problem I reported in order to have...

Ads on my hub titled "Alex Kelly Rape Case: Talk About Rushing to Judgment! " have been disabled by a moderator. While I do not really care about making money on ads (I'm not even sure what ads I had on the hub) I'm puzzled about this action by HubPages because there remain two ads on my...

I'm curious if anyone has tested by a month to month basis whether or not you make more with Adsense alone or with HP Ads?It's impossible to do a true split test, since each month will be different, but I'm curious to hear your results...Some of us won't get a lot of traffic so Adsense might be...
