An advertising ploy for what? Basically it's almost worthless having members from the site view your hubs - hubbers don't click ads, just give feedback.
You want ad clicks from google which means quality articles with good keywords and 500+ words.
wow one of them has 141 followers in mere four days..its raining followers for them...
I'm also interested in this. They do appear fake
opaljj
johnsonyv
If you look at their hubtivity, they follow like 150 people each in one second interval. I got a screenshot of that. My bet is that this is another one of those "article marketing" services like traffic geyser or something.
I think what Paul means is the concept that they're simply spam-following members. I followed a previous hubpages member to see what happened. Within 12 hours their profile was empty of all hubs, and they were following no one/nor being followed.
johnsonyv followed me too and I saw a lot of people have them as followers. I dint follow him/her back since they dont have any intersting content. Its strange that they have quite a good amount of "fans", since they are non stop following people
Weird!
Found another one:
sharpmj
Do people follow them back out of common courtesy and a pretty picture?
They are obviously using software to follow people, you cannot follow 10 people in 10 seconds naturally!
Ok, it is a spam invasion! Look at the followers of any of these people, they are all the same: name + 2 letters, joined about 4 days ago.
Another one:
larrybm
I'd suggest you flag their profiles if they're spamming, especially if you suspect it's automated spamming.
johnsonyv has almost 300 followers in three days - and only 3 hubs! There is another one - sharpmj
The thing about following back these people is that if they never do anything, there's no trigger to make you stop following.
That johnsonyv had followed me before she got started rolling down the list; I followed back hesitantly because she hadn't done much. It was only by chance that I noticed her later hubtivity following person after person.
If I had not noticed that or this post, there would have been nothing to bring that account back into my consciousness.
If they start spamming, they'll get unfollowed. If they don't, what have they accomplished? You could have every single person here follow you and that would give you exactly nothing in terms of juice outside of here. Google doesn't care, Bing doesn't, nobody does.
Pointless crime, I think.
What is benefit of following everyone every second... apart from getting hundreds upon hundreds of back links to your profile...
When you follow someone, you have a link from their profile back to yours, so a link from someones profile that has thousands of links can be quite "juicy"....
If you have a look of two of the aforementioned profiles, they look like the 'same' gal, just with different hair and a slightly different pose
These people seem to think it's a social networking site, as though following others = friends.
Maybe Hubpages should emphasize the purpose of 'followers' to new Hubbers when they sign up. Perhaps there should be a limit on how many people you can follow in one day/hour/minute.
It's all very silly. Until they start spamming, there's really no harm done, I guess.

I am fairly new here, but what I've learned is that most people follow to get followers. (I was that person). What I discovered was that, if I follow you I am required to read your hubs when published. My suggestion; don't follow to be followed. Follow because you genuinely are interested in the...

Do any of you have people following you, but they have not writen any hubs, yet these people...have some 5-50 people following them? And, do you think that it is possible that these people may copy hubs and try to pass them on as their own?

I've just reached a landmark of 100 followers (yay, me!), which might not seem like much, but it's built up pretty slowly over time, and I've made sure to interact with everyone I'm following regularly (106 now), checking out new hubs, etc. It made me consider an interesting question:How do...

I've had twitter for a while. I find it very spammy, so don't really read it. I post my hubs there & the occasional article I like. I have approx 300 followers (many are writers), yet in my traffic, I have very rarely had a visitor from twitter. Do the backlinks count for...

How many hubs should one share at the most for it not to appear as spamming to one's followers?Do you sahare hubs everyday? How many hubs do you share on a daily basis?

Wouldn't it be great if we could de-fan a follower? If your asking, "why in the world would you want to do that?" Let me tell you. Recently I have been gaining quite a few followers which actually helped push my numbers over 200. That is great. However, most of these people have not only...
