I tend to isolate myself from the internet in a coffee shop and drown out the outside world so I can completely absorb myself in the writing. I listen to a lot of electronic music, because if I hear lyrics it removes me from concentrating on other words, or any verbal train of thought I'm having. How about you guys?
I don't like music. I can write anywhere, anytime and best under pressure. The only exception is writing something deeply personal which I usually find myself putting off, instead of delving immediately into.
Stephen King writes with music so loud his wife can't remain in the same room. Several published authors talk about writing to loud music as a way of closing out the world while they focus on writing.
