Question about traffic resources

   If I am getting traffic from dogpile but I have never listed anything with them, could I safely assume that this traffic is from some sort of backlink from someone else? I'm not real savvy in this traffic resource stuff other than reading where it is coming from. Now, I am curous to know "how" I would get traffic from a site I have never used. (Not that I am complaining lol).

   Isn't dogpile a search engine? If so, then the same basic concepts apply to them as google and yahoo.

   Dogpile gets its content from the results of searching other search engines.
   
   Is it a search engine?
   Dunno. You could argue the point either way.
   But it you're getting traffic from it just enjoy
   
   (I just checked it for my name and the top result is an article I posted on a motorcycling newsgroup about 10 years ago.
   It was about making heated handgrips for a motorbike I used to have.
   
   And that blast from the past shows that my writing was just as good as it is now, so I obviously haven't lost too many brain cells )
   
   And it also shows that anything you post on the net in forums could hang around for a LONG time.

   Thanks, Eric! I don't know why it didn't occur to me to do that! I just searched my name there and came up with 6 listings on the first page! Fortunately, it tells where they found each listing so that was helpful. Also discovered that my profile page here finally has a PR, which is cool. It's only 3 now but hopefully will climb. My Ezine Article profile has a PR of 6! I just love this Google tool bar lol. I finally have several hubs that are beginning to be ranked as well so I guess that isn't bad for the time I have been here since I don't advertise as much as most. I was just really curious about the dogpile search engine. Thanks a lot for the help all!

   My understanding is that Dogpile is a Meta-search engine, which is a search engine that compiles search results from other engines, and then presents a combined set of results.
   
   I am often mystified by some of the places I get traffic from -- despite all of my hubs being in English, I have gotten traffic from Google Singapore, Google Peru, Google India, and most recently, Google Romania! More strange, I quite often get traffic from google mail!!!

      Yes, traffic comes from gmail and yahoo mail. That can be because of somebody sharing our hub url to friends via email. One more possibility is that the fan club emails.

      I agree, Adsens. I have all sorts of Google search engines listed in the resources. Some of the countries, I can't even figure out lol. But I guess that is a good thing! As long as we are getting the traffic that we are mystified by, we know the urls are being shared, right!

   http://z.hubpages.com is where the images are loaded in HP. I get that url in my traffic source. Paul wondered when I asked it as a doubt. Probably, it is when somebody finds our hub images via google image search (and similar SE) and click thru it.

   Dogpile is a serach engine that searches other searches. It means if you got traffic from it whatever the person searched made a reference to hub or hubpages and to your title\keyword. (or at least to my knowledge this is what it does)
   
   Self Test:
   When I tried to look from my hub on Google the only way to bring it up was to include my user name and or hub\hubpages and part of the title with a keyword or two. It's how mine is second on Google if you search: 
   hubpages mmorpgs
   
   But if you searched:
   hubpages mmorpgs runescape
   My hub is now the first on the page.
   
   If you go to Dogpile and type:
   mmorpgs hubpages
   My hub is 8 links down and says "found on google"
   
   Now if you typed:
   mmorpgs hubpages runescape
   My hub is now 7 links down.
   
   As you see what you type on Google is different results on Dogpile because, because the search for mmorgps hubpages runescape pull up searches on ask.com and other engines that find a site other then hubpages more important to those keywords.

      Me too. You can actually use yahoo answers to help direct traffic to your hubs, but don't over do it or you'll get a 666 message or something, and it'll be a few days before you can post links to hubpages again.

      Yahoo! Answers bring most traffic for my hubpage about online scanners. And what's more, they are frequently chosen as best answers

    If you have a yahoo account you can go to yahoo answers and answer other people's questions and post a link to you hub for more information. Maybe someone else has done that which is why you've seen traffic from there. I don't know. You don't get loads of  traffic, but after the questions are resolved, the best answer is posted underneath the question, with the other answers down below. When using Yahoo as a search engine, they will frequently pull from yahoo answers to provide another search option to whatever you're searching, and it's normally on the top of the search options. So not only do you get people answering and checking out the yahoo answers section of yahoo, but you can potentionally get people searching the general topic to click your link.
