One of my Hubs that NO ONE has seen about Mike Doughty just got 221 hits in the last hour!       How do I find out the source of this sudden and unexpected burst?     probably a fansite obviously but...?   Anyobody good at this?

Thats really interesting lol. Google Anylatics if you signed up for it would tell you. Also, the traffic tracker on Hubpages should tell you. I mean, 221 Hits in an hour has to have some source that can be credited for it!

One of my hubs has got around 400 hits from yahoo search alone...I see this in HP traffic tracking system, yet to check with google analytics. Sometimes you get such a sudden large number of hits when somebody bookmarks your hub in sites like digg, mixx etc. Some forums and yahoo answers also give good traffic.

Okay I tried your tips however the stats above the hub says that 235 of the 266 hits were from within hubpages!  That's not possible!

Also, no one commented after all those hits.  This must be a stumbleupon thing or something where people don't know where they are going until they get there.

too bad.  i thought maybe he blogged it.  he blogs a lot while on tour.  *sigh* thanks.

Huh?   I don't know what that means.  Like a rip-off site.

It is just pulling in feeds from Youtube and sorting them by most viewed. It is aggregating video content, probably from Youtube, Revver, AOL and some other sites. Not a rip-off site. It's not actually hosting any content. It looks to have been set up as a search engine.
I just did one for Eminem

You can read more about aggregators here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aggregator

My favorite aggregator is popurls.com  If you find yourself with hours to kill occasionally, you can kill a lot there LOL

This is possible that the traffic is from hubpages. Sometimes a hub is shown under the hot hubs catagory and traffic from hubpages get directed to it if your title is attractive and content appears interesting to lot of hubbers.
