Hello everyone!
Another update on HubPages ad layout changes - Jason just published a blog post (http://blog.hubpages.com/2011/03/ad-layout-changes/) detailing the changes, but the gist is illustrated in the images below:
The change for those who just have AdSense:
The change for those who are a part of the HubPages Ad Program:
Again, check out Jason's post for a more in-depth explanation, and visit Paul Edmondson's original forum post for more details on the ad layout change.
We hope you like the new layout!
i think changes for peoples who just have adsense is good but changes for peoples who are also part of hubpages ad program don't look such good.As there is only one adsense unit left.It is sure going to make big drop in adsense earnings.I think it would be better if it have top 3 ads from adsense and then hubpage ad program ads should come.that way it will not make much decrease in adsense earnings Or i would say older layout for the peoples who are also part of hubpage's ad program was better.
AdSense can compete for ALL of the ad spots, so a Hubpages ad program member can potentially see FIVE adsense ads, this was mentioned in the blog post, which is what this entire thread is about.
Yes dear i have been read that. Not sure how its going to effect till when i use it for some time. But am happy that you are earning more with it .congrats
Yes BUT only one of those 5 is from your account... meaning you only get paid for clicks through one ad... the others you get paid by impression.
If you'd like a peek into how it's effected me....
The last 7 days I've had, drum roll please!
$1.27 in earnings through Adsense!
These changes are putting a hurting on Adsense earnings so much that I'll go from $70+ from last month to maybe $20+ this month...
Luckily the HubPages Ad program pays daily and it looks like I'll hit that $50 spot but it's going to take a lot to build Adsense back up to what it was.
I like that their ad program pays out every $50 so that's a plus but if you plan on getting Adsense checks like you use to then you shouldn't join.
I'm OK with it lowering my earnings a little bit in Adsense but it's been 2 years since my Adsense earnings have been this low.
I just opened my IE browser (not logged into HP) to see one of my hubs and it looks good!
I can only see the banner at the top when logged out as well. Sadly...I liked the banner under the title the way it was before.
I don't understand.
Why can we see MORE ads when logged IN but less when logged OUT.
Surely the whole point in ads is to present themselves to people who NEVER login?
Isn't that supposed to be the other way around? Yin and Yang? Vice Versa? North and South?
Oh, or do you mean that you can see ALL the ads whilst logged out, but the big ad banner is not shown when logged in?
I gets ya, fair enough, that ad could be impression based... in which case we wouldn't want to be earning through our own impressions
Yup. Log out and then you can see the big banner.
Yeppers! I still wish I could move my amazon ads to the far right though, but...guess the bottom or not use is the way to go. (Non-sales hub)
Where is it saying that we see more ads when logged in?
The images on the left is showing how it used to be, the images on the right is how it will be (or is now).
Or are you referring to other information?
It doesn't, I just misunderstood the posts of others on here
Although isn't that what they are saying?
You only see the top banner ad when logged out. At least I do !
So, you are you saying that the Top Banner ad cannot be seen whilst logged in?
OR, are you saying that only 1 out of 5 ad units (just the top banner) shows when logged out?
The word "only" has a double entrede there! The first one makes more sense?
My only question is when can I get the HP ad program? Will it be rolled out sooner because of the Google changes? Is it still in a experimental/beta phase, or pretty definite now what's happening with the ads? (Oops, that's more than one question, I know!)
cheers, Paul
I would say my dismay about HubPages is world wide.
As this post talks about.
<snipped link - no self-promotion in the Forums>
The idea of a site having trouble with templates and the use of ad placement for users is not acceptable at this time with the technology available.
Without users submitting content no hubpages.com would exist.
The other issue is this site is poorly prepared for search engines. No sitemap.xml file is found.
Type in http://hubpages.com/sitemap.xml
and you get That page doesn't exist.
Well, there ya go. If it's on Associated Content, it must be true (particularly when it's written by someone who can't spell.)
Perhaps if this form worked then we would not have such a problem.
The real question how much have you made on this site???
A sitemap does not have to be named sitemap.xml
It can be named ihatefuckinggoogle.xml if you want.
Making the sitemap that easy to find is a great way of having somebody strip your site of its content overnight.
Educate yourself a topic before becoming a willing critic.
Well I suggest you go to an seo class to learn about site maps.
Or a little company called Google that cannot seem to find the site you are so loyal to.
I don't know which part of my post you didn't understand, but I am right, it is YOU that needs to attend an SEO class:
http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/W … &hl=en
$13300 in 6 months on Hubpages, by the way, take a hike. I would never write an article for $7, I know too much about SEO
Before the algorithm change I was taking 27000 page views PER DAY, I am now taking 18000 PER DAY.
If Google can't find your Hubpages then you need to attend that SEO class, jog along.
Technology ? Show me any alternatives for yieldbuild that are available in the market.
Dude, this is not a wordpress or free CMS hosted site. Hubpages contains consistently tweaked custom code. Go to archive.org and watch progress of this custom CMS from the very beginning. Sitemap queries are not supposed to follow the same URL structure that you see on other free CMS.
Simone, thanks for pointing us to the blog post. Sounds good to me. Let the best paying and most relevant ad win!
Obvious the technical abilities of users of hub pages equals the amount of shared revenue.
Perhaps if every one moved to demand media at least they pay $7.00 an article. More all make on hubpages.
Custom code. Dude in a browser you can see the code structure. This is a simple site. Which should have nothing to do with one fact.
Why all this claimed custom code cannot allow users equal share in revenue. Well if the site had any revenue to share.
Are you for real ?
Why you're so worried about every one ? You feel the pain, move on, leave the hubpages.
What a load of BS. Anyway, what's your skill-set ?
Yes. Site has no revenue to share and you can pack your bag now.
Don't let the door hit you in the rear on your way out!
Duplicate content shared on more than one site is a problem also, you agree?
No, look at the recent article about the New York Times.
One more piece of information you've managed to get totally wrong.
Ha! Would you choose a one off payment of $7 per article or several hundreds/thousands dollars per article over it's lifetime? If it's the first choice then I think that either you need a psychiatrist or you're skint and need the upfront money.
If you ever made thousands on an article you need an accountant.
Are you for real?? All you need to know is simple maths to figure taxes. Sounds as though you have never worked for yourself before.
No one needs an accountant to sort out earnings, unless they would like to maximize deductions (or) just mearly have the certainty of validity of their totals by a licensed professional backing up their claim.
Though, while making thousands, one tends to hire accountants for conveneince.
Maybe read up on the successful writers on this site. Quite impressive.
Everyone wants be a leader by telling how well you do.
That is why you still write for this site.
Not a real one.
This is a great site and community. I have various accounts here and also many of my own sites. I am full time self-employed online. As you have noticed this site has tightened the straps on their "quality control!" due to unfortunate abuse by unsavory types.
The unfortunate thing about great platforms is that when they have clout, leaches come to take advantage.... we won't have it any longer!
If this is a crappy site, then why are you here wasting your time?
And how much do you take for your stupidity? I earn almost nothing from this site but I still think whatever I earn will be enough to pay for your nonsense.
Yes two hubs do to the fact the literary editors at hubs declines submissions.
now if you go over to places like triond, associated and the others that PAY for content you all might wake up.
you are being had.
but then all of you are smarter, wasting time answering a thread about how you are NOT making money.
HI Mr. Media - what's your beef with the deal here? Maybe you and me can get together and start an alternative going. I have a number of ideas for creating content in a top down theocratic and optimised logical methodology using only the latest drivers in linking strategies.
I reckon to pull in a couple of big ones each week doing this and you sound like just the sort of guy to have on board. I need technical knowhow and a can do positive vibe running through my organisation and if I throw some organic stuff in your direction we can make this work.
Ciao for now.
We already have 5 sites. We only tested this site to see how the search engines like them. They do not like this site.
And if you join me we can open another website that will contain video clips of yours only. People would have to pay to enjoy your mon[k]ey-dance. I strongly believe we will earn well.
Who said we weren't making money? And if you write for AC, you need to check out their forums to see how bad it has gotten over there. $7.00? LOL! What idiot would sell an article for this low rate when it will make much more than that in a short while here if written well!
Get along little dogie!
Demand media pays $7 and article read the type
I will not write an article for less than $10 for 500 words at places that pay upfront. My most successful article on HubPages has earned me over $900 and is #1 on Google.
And I don't understand either why you are here. Obviously your hubs did not fit the quality standards here.
Guess I should take a pay cut and use Associated Content. I mean...$7...Wow! Why would I want more than that???
Well, they do Decline submissions that are duplicate content. Maybe Associated Content will accept them and maybe they will pay duplicated times if they are that easy to fool.
Associate owned by Yahoo insures search results on articles.
Search your articles and see how well they show up outside of Hubpages.
Not
Not...lol, Guess people do find them, since I see the views from Google, Bing, Yahoo, AOL and many others. Why are you still even here if you hate this site so bad? No more hubs, just posts on forums.
@HP
In my humble opinion, your awesomeness continues.
In my further humble opinion, I think the ad layouts on the left-side are more aesthetically pleasing.
Please keep doing what you are doing!
OOPS! I just realized those were before and after pics!
Sorry about that.
Never mind.
PS However, your awesomeness does continue.
@Socialmedia101, helium is sweet awesome sheksy site that pays 10$ upfront and includes the article in revenue sharing queue as well. Why not try that ? By the way which five sites you think search engine likes the most ?
Why ? Your bank cashier don't count zeroes on check ?
I see the Spam is being served for Supper time tonight! (reported)
Wow, thanks for the quick response HP Team!!!
Wait...why is it better to have less ads? They didn't seem very imposing before. Won't this cut down on our adsense earnings?
Can't wait to see how this will work out. I'm being very confident that it will be a win-win situation for ALL.
Its a Worry! Counts are still declining and my adsense earnings are in free fall! How's everyone else going?
My CTR as gone down, very down, almost 40% down, i think this new ad layout isn't improving earnings.
I have got no click from last 1,500 search engine visits. Last 20 clicks brought me only 0.1$. I don't like the new layout at all. It doesn't look good. I don't understand how it looks more reader friendly than the earlier one [ads under title and a horizontal ad in the middle] that used to bring me much much better ctr and cmp. I think the Ads leader board on top of the hub making the readers hit the back button straight away.
I hope HP ads will cover it up and it already looks good to me.
I prefer the old adsense layout, and I think there should be an equal number of ads for google and hubpages program. For the past 5days that I activated the hubpages ad program my google adsense earning was greatly reduce to 1/4 and even less and even when you add my earning from hubpages ad program my previous earnings in adsense alone is much more. I hope you can bring back the old ad layout.
