Using Photos of Famous Celebrities

I've noticed people using photos of famous celebrities here and I know they didn't take them themselves. I have a hub I'm writing that I need some photos. Is this really allowable or is it some type of copyright infringement?

If you can do it, at what site are you allowed to copy the photos?

You can often find photos of celebrities and products by searching for press releases.

Press Package photos are encouraged to be used, for the most part.

But, for the most part what you are seeing is stolen imagery being used by unscrupulous or ignorant publishers.

Look for Creative Commons, wikiMedia and press releases if you want to correctly use images

I have a few hubs with celebrity photos, and they were all found at http://commons.wikimedia.org and are licensed for commercial re-use.

In fact, several of the photos I've use were taken by members of the U.S. armed services and/or government agencies, which puts them in the public domain!

They aren't always the most well-composed or flattering "glamour shots" but they are legal to use...
