This is a new account implementation to protect the site from spam. I've no doubt it's as secure as they can make it, and they won't use your number for anything else.

Ahh u know not later than last week , in the news i heard that a parcel came from an african country in which there were drugs,, and there was only a phone number on that parcel and they arrested that guy, and of course he is saying he has nothing to do with this as he has no idea why his phone number was on that parcel?? could be true.!!  & now hearing all this how can I give a phone number on the Net.? also what if i dont use any phone.!! so no Hub activities for those who dont possess a phone?

HP is a reliable and professional site and when they say something they mean it.. you may have to take chances.. but the decision is yours. Best wishes to you smile

Is it happening for all members yet? I remember when the phone number method was first implemented and I was first to submit my number but I haven't written a hub for a while. Perhaps its only the ones who have volunteered.

They said at the time too that existing members would probably not be asked to verify. I verified mine but that's just because I was nosey to see how it worked. It has really worked - I am seeing a lot less spam!

I did not verify mine, to be honest I did see the thread but didn't bother reading it properly. I've published hubs since then with no problems
