I think it was RyanK that mentioned this initially and I;ve finally got round to downloading the 12 day free trial and have watched the first 5 intro videos which look really good.

I wondered if anyone uses this for keyword research ... I rarely pay for software preferring whatever is free but this does look exceptionally good so it would be great to have any feedback, good or bad on it.

      this software is awesome...
traditional google adwords does the keyword research but not as complete as market samurai. It can grab the competitor backlinks, percentage the chance of winning and more.
      must have....

I tried the one-month trial but didn't sign up for the program after that.  I learned a lot from the trial but I'm not creating hundreds of websites so I don't really need it on an ongoing basis.  Plus I don't have the patience to learn it all!

Putting your brain to work is the best option.

Will, you are using your brain if you buy Market Samurai. It is a fantastic tool.

Exact matches – all searches local to USA – global searches are higher

      Usb 3 card – 14,800 per month
Farmville crop mastery 3,600 per month
Unlocked smartphone – 6,600 per month
Color ereader – 18,100 per month

Don't advise others to use their brain Will, when it's certainly not that alone that dug the above up for you.

Successful online marketing is nothing to do with guess work and everything to do with market research. Whether an individual chooses to use free software or not, they'd be a fool not to at least research the market (if they're looking to earn an income online).

Yes - quality content etc etc is a part of the whole, but writing alone is not enough. You know that, I know that, and whenever anyone like the OP asks an honest question, at least do the right thing and give him or her the right to make an informed decision.

Keyword research is exactly that. No one ever claimed to provide the rest.

I've tried it and like it... however, I still prefer the simple Adword Keyword tool - it works the best for me.

Market Samurai had the edge pre-Panda - and I guess it will evolve itself around the Panda.

    Buy it.

I am a little put off (put out!) however as the software is different to the ones in the video tutorials .. there is no filter refresh button .. also, following their process, they end up with a few good quality keywords ... I'm usually getting 1 keyword .. occasionally 2 ... I guess I'm doing something wrong but it would be nice not to have to spend ages trying to work it out .... maybe a download guide would be good sad

Use it in conjunction with Google Insights -
Yes they keep having to change things at MS because of the changes Google keeps making, but it is still a great tool, not only for keyword research, but for competition research and even checking if your own hubs or sites are optimized. You can put any of your own urls into the competition page and see how many backlinks you have, and if your on-page optimization is working well, as well as see exactly what you have to do to beat the competition.
I only recently discovered that all my pages had become UN-optimized due to changes HP made to the site, and have been slowly working through ALL my hubs making the necessary changes to optimize them again. I am seeing results too. MS to the rescue once again!

Does it tell you if your page is interesting, readable and likely to hold someones attention for a few minutes?

Is there an check list of that long list of things Google is looking for- like originality, research worthwhile analysis etc etc?

        1. IzzyM profile image88
IzzyMposted 13 years agoin reply to this

The google bots can't tell that either, that is up to you, the writer, to write good, original content.
Analytics gives great feedback on those things - things like bounce rate, time spent on page etc.

Will, there is a lot more to writing online than simply writing good and original content, as well you know.

If you don't know by now, then you are not terribly interested in making money online, or getting a reasonable readership.

I have followed you reasoning and the same from others, occasionally half-agreeing with your position.

I now think that there are two distinct issues, the first is as you say about quality, content, etc., and all these things are true and are what it is about at centre, however, great stuff is nothing without visitors to look at it and that is where the SEO side cannot be denied.  I have a site that is made and went online that is full of totally original well-written and interesting stuff that I want to start selling and promoting after July 1st.  It gets around 3 visitors per hour from affiliated articles but when I put up a single test backlink to a backlink factory source visitors quadrupled for around 3 weeks.

I don't expect anything to happen until I get promoting and linking - the content itself does not generate traffic.

Remember your on-page SEO as you write them. Honestly, the difference this makes, even without backlinking, is incredible.

Totally agree with you Izzy. I have had Market Samurai for the past 8 months, best money spent. Paid for its self almost immediately. If you want low competition kw's that stand a chance of ranking it's a must have.

    Hi Izzy,

I just downloaded the free trial of Market Samurai through your seo blog so you should get the commission when I purchase it because it looks pretty exciting - but I do have a quick question.

How are you using it to analyze each hub?

I realize that is how you found out that the description is no longer listed - I've seen that too when analyzing pages and now have to update each Hub summary but is there anything else in particular you look for to help optimize each hub?

I use it all the time. It really speeds up keyword research but it is also a great way of keeping track of where your keywords are ranking in the SERPs.
I know you can do everything that Market Samurai can do using free tools but I still found it worth every penny in terms of the time it has saved me.
