I really want to make some kind of money writing, but I don't know how. I am trying to put myself out there, but I think that I am not trying hard enough. What does everyone else do to try to make money here on hubpages? Are there other writing sites that anyone can recommend?

Zuly, I suspect that you will soon run afoul of the moderators in that some of your hubs will probably be judged as too personal.  Check this link in the learning center:

      http://hubpages.com/learningcenter/Mode … ow-Quality

It contains a section on "too personal" and explains what is expected.

As others have said, it can be a long road and lots of work to earn much writing online.  At the risk of self-promotion, you might also look at a hub I wrote on my first few months here on HP:  http://wilderness.hubpages.com/hub/maki … -hubpages.  It should give you an idea of what you are up against as well as provide some tips for newbies.

Another suggestion is to post a hub or two in the "extreme Hub Makeover" forum and ask for a critique.  Better have a thick skin, though, because people will critique it and provide suggestions for improvement.  I know!

There are a lot of good hubbers here that will do their best to help you get started.  Just realize that that really is what they're trying to do - help you out. smile
