Wisdom is a vital quality which a rational human needs to make impact in life. It is a very vital characteristic that have make so many great men in the world. It has many benefits both in terms of spiritual and physical aspects. Men of virtue go for wisdom because they know they will attain greatness with such outstanding quality.

What is wisdom? According to Oxford Advanced Learner’s English dictionary, wisdom is the quality of being wise. The dictionary also defined the same word as the body of knowledge and experience that develops within a specific society and period. It is a very important characteristic that leads to development into many other areas. Wisdom is that quality that is needed for progressive development in all areas of life. Wisdom is what differentiates most successful men in life from the unsuccessful. It is through wisdom that God made the planets.

In the Bible, God shows that everyone who loves Him needs His wisdom for growth. Deuteronomy chapter 34 verses 9 states “Joshua son of Nun was filled with wisdom, because Moses has appointed him to be his successor”. It is because of this wisdom that made Joshua to be able to lead the people of Israel. That is to say that wisdom plays important roles when it comes to sense of leadership. When God asked Solomon what he wanted most, Solomon asked for wisdom and with it was able to lead his people.

The benefit of wisdom as the topic under discussion appears in Proverbs. In proverbs chapter 4 of the Bible, discussed is the benefits of wisdom. “Get wisdom and insight! Do not forget or ignore what I say” (Proverbs 4: 5). “Do not abandon wisdom, and she will protect you; love her, and she will keep you safe” (Proverbs 4: 6).

The word “wisdom” is highly profiled and is seen as the bedrock of every other good that will come across any ones way. In fact, no wisdom, no sound achievements in life. Proverbs 4: 7 says “getting wisdom is the most important thing you can do”. If there is a school called school of wisdom, many people will pay huge to go to such schools.

Wisdom cannot in anyway be separated from effective leadership. For any leadership to be classified as being effective, the leader of the location must apply wisdom to strike good balance. It is with wisdom that a manager will understand the basic management functions and practice them. There are emergency situations that leaders do not need to call the senators and their assistants. In such situation, the leader needs to apply wisdom to make good decision.

It is because of the wisdom given to Solomon that made him to make good decision between the two women that were having problem with a baby. When the case was presented to King Solomon in First King 3:16-28, Solomon told the servant to bring a sword to cut the baby into two for each to take the half. When the servant wanted to carry out the action, the real mother of the child told Solomon not to kill the child but to give the baby to the woman that claimed it was hers. At the end, King Solomon told the servant to give the living baby to the woman that said the baby should not be killed. Without the wisdom which was acquired by Solomon, he would not have been able to take the good decision. Pray for God’s wisdom for excellence.

In the United States of America, it is because of wisdom that makes their presidents to be outstanding than others. The early presidents of the country were wise and that was why they built on good platform for others to continue from it. Any president who climbs on the leadership position works hard to continue from the good works that were done by others. Today, presidents of many other continents, specifically Africa, go to United States of America to spend holidays forgetting the fact that if they apply wisdom in ruling their own countries, theirs will be more beautiful than United States of America. Presidents from that continent have “corrupt wisdom” on embezzlement of the countries fund.

There are few presidents in some corrupt continents who also apply wisdom in providing solutions to their national challenges. Taking Nigeria as a case study, the country has serious unemployment and power challenges. Unemployment in Nigeria is critical and boring problem. When President Goodluck Jonathan entered into leadership position, he found out that the situation demands addressing. Though he did not address the problem holistically, but out of wisdom, he set up some youth empowering schemes and programs to help in addressing the issue. The major of them are those called YouWIN and GIS. Through these two programs, he was able to address the issue to some extent. Concerning the power challenge, with wisdom, the president invited foreign engineers who are skilful in power sector and more Megawatts were generated which improved the power supply in the country. Though the president has many lapses during his leadership, which among them is corruption in Nigeria, he applied wisdom which upgraded power sector to some extent.

Wisdom plays principal roles in business success. Can any businessman or woman make success without wisdom? Of the truth, if the dealer should succeed, that should be in only local level. The person will be afraid to conduct that international because the wisdom is lacking in him or her. The world rich man and women that the media write about, and many like see them as their role models attain that level because they applied wisdom in their businesses and service rendering to people.

The world richest man, Bill Gate from United States of America, is a wise man and that his wisdom is making ways for him to acquire more wealth. The Software giant has dived very deep into software design. When the company became development of window software for computers, among the first designed by Microsoft is called window XP. Today, the most recent as of the time of the publication of this article is window 8. The windows continue to transform to suit in to the modern technological applications. If bug is discovered in the one that is invoke, the manager in his wisdom designs another to be sold to computer users. Whenever a new window is launched by Microsoft, people buy, and the more they buy the more the company makes money.

In the tertiary institutions, those who perform great in their academic results are known to be students that value wisdom. These are group of students who are always ready to go extra mile to understand the secret and the basics behind what they have been thought by their lecturers. After each examination, their results are always marked with flying colours, and it appears as if they used charms during their exams but it is just the power of wisdom in action.

I always tell people that great inventors are all great thinkers. If these great men that we celebrate did not think deep, we will not celebrate them today for their great works. Many of them are dead today; yet we keep remembering them because of their great works which cannot in anyway be forgotten.

Let us take a look at the invention made by Abraham Graham Bell. The great man that invented the telephone began to think about it when he was still in the school. He was wise and that made him to think in that direction to make life easier to man through invention of telephone for easy communication from people to people. Today, many other inventions which centres on technological development have been made but all these would not have been possible without the benefit of wisdom in the world.
