What should the role of sex in society be? Do you think we go to far? or the opposite - do we make sex a "dirty" thing so that people are "tempted" by it - and therefore seduced by advertisements/shows etc that are overly sexual?  I see both sides - sex is totally natural and should be celebrated and enjoyed - but our ads, tv and even clothing tend to objectify women/girls and make everything overtly, blatantly sexual - which could be potentially harmful - particularly for kids who are not properly educated about it and are subjected to all of this from very young ages.  Thoughts? - Hubs? smile

Yes, sex is totally natural and something to be enjoyed ---privately.  I think, unfortunately, sex has become the great advertising gimmick because it is something we all relate to.  It is used to sell, entice, convince, seduce and the list goes on and it is such a shame but it works well.

Women have been battling for years for equality and to be seen as thinking, intelligent human beings - and in a sense we have lost that battle because advertisements, TV shows, magazine portray us as weak creatures who chase criminals in scanty tops and high heels, or work as executives but with our shirts unbuttoned to our navels.

Look at the news shows.  A male anchor is dressed in a suit and gives you the news.  A woman anchor is dressed in flashy colors with so much makeup they look like a circus clown.  Can we not be taken seriously without all the paint and peacockery? - oh I got started.

We want equality but the media fights us at every turn.

So I do believe we go to far with the whole sex sells. So I do miss the days that a couple could have a good sexual romp but it didn't make it to You Tube.

sex is way too taboo in the west. we love porn, we love nudity but we pretend were against it and i find it absurd. sex to me is like sports, it's there for our enjoyment.

Firstly I'd say that I agree. It's become taboo. Blame puritanists. We've made it a dirty and difficultly accessed thing. Most people aren't even honest about their sexual habits. As a young man, I note this with my age group. There's a lot of cognitive dissonance going on. Actually it's kind of funny. But when people are labeled "whores" and "fiends" for naturally wanting something natural, it's only *natural* that they'd lie about it and just twist themselves up more and more.

As far as women being objectified...it happens with men too. I find it pretty funny that women say this a lot but seem to totally gloss over all the underwear/cologne (and etc...) ads with shirtless, muscular, oiled up men selling stuff. Look at Vogue, Cosmo, GQ or Maxim, both have 'em.

If sex wasn't made such an exotic and esoteric subject, it wouldn't be such a tactic to use it to sell stuff to people. It'd be like "oh...hah." no one would even try it, actually. Unless they were selling say, viagra or condoms. You don't see people using sex to sell washing detergent....

    Just my $0.02
