Research shows that eccentric exercise, mechanical stimulation, and stretching is necessary for tendon healing. Rest only goes so far. A physiologic change occurs at the tendon with an injury and the above recommendations allow it to heal appropriately.
Eccentric exercise focuses on the controlled lowering of weight. More force can be produced which is necessary to promote healing. An example of an eccentric bicep curl is to use the opposite arm to help the weight up, then use the involved are to control the descent back to starting position. This principle can be applied to any contraction.
An example of mechanical stimulation is vigorous massage over the tendon. be careful as soreness is expected and it is easy to overdo.
