How do we: parents/educators help prepare our children to be better equipped for a high tech career?
Most of the good paying jobs of the next 10-20 years will require technical knowledge in a variety of areas. There are currently positions open that America does not have the talent to fill. How do we guide our children to fulfilling positions that fill this vital need?
Both my husband and I are teachers (he teaches technology and I taught technology/SMART Board) and would probably side with parents opening their children up to different technological experiences. If schools have computer classes, have your children take these classes at the earliest possible grade. If they can learn to type by fifth grade, perfect. But that being said, there are tech clubs for kids, NASA has Space Camp, MIT might have some summer opportunities, and there are museums geared for technology, for example in Milwaukee, WI, we have Discovery World. It is a wonderful place of old and new technology, plus the exhibits show the progression from one form of technology to the next. It's fascinating to see the kids moving from exhibit to exhibit, testing, pretending and imagining. Best Regard--Deb
Thank you Deb, for your contribution as a teacher (low pay) and for helping to give kids a good start.
Parents should be technologically literate themselves in order to guide their children in the right direction. School districts should have the latest technology and maintain the equipment. Money, money, money! Our school as computer tech certification programs.
Poverty during this recession can impede a parents ability to be computer literate because of limited access. Thank you for responding.
I reckon our kids will be teaching us. I have young children and am astounded at how quickly they grasp technology. It's second nature and is all aroundd them. I will be badgering my kids for lessons as they get older.
So true my grandson is 4 and he can boot up my laptop, select media, open and insert movies and start them w/o assistance for the past two years. Dee

To parents, educators, and other concerned adults out there, what key gems of advice would yougive a child regarding failure? Would you instruct him/her to avoid failure and that failure is an impediment to achieving and attaining future success, particularly in education and career?

All things being equal, if you had to decide which parent was to raise their children, would you favor the father or the mother as being the better choice to raise them?

Every day I see some of the most stupidest people having children. Usually, at least it seems to me, those with less intelligence keep having child after child, often when they cannot afford them. I sometimes think it would be better for all if there was an IQ requirement for having children. I...
