There are alot of people struggling and out of work and living with relatives or in tent cities all over the country or just working thier butts off and to try to barely survive and yet there is so much judgement and negativity. It could happen to any one of us at any given time, then what? If you found yourself in that place would you like to be judged or despised?

Whatever happened to caring and compassion for our fellow man. Instead now it's like 'kick 'em' when there down.'

People who despise the poor are people who very rarely are born into poverty themselves. These are people who live in a bubble of financial security and comfort who genuinely believe that the only reason the poor are poor are because they aren't working hard enough to get out of it! And then I have found poor people who also buy into this complete mythology because they're deluded enough to think they'll be one of the rich people some day and have already set up protecting their imaginary wealth from their thieving peasant friends and family! It's society-wide mental illness if you ask me. Like hysteria or the threat of vampires.

Theophanes: You are so right, some choose to be oblivious to others despair so they can stay in thier safe little bubbles.

Because more poor people means more money for wealthy Conservative businessmen, and wealthy Conservative businessmen have convinced the general population that poor people are bad people. It's all to perpetuate their growing profit margins.

It's because they have been convinced by various pundits that welfare is a Bad Thing because it A. Raises their personal taxes and B. Encourages people to stay poor.

Some of these people genuinely believe that if you make sure poor people will starve if they don't find a job, 100% of them would immediately find a job.
