A number is thrice a number.The sum of their reciprocals is 4. Find the numbers.

x = 3y

1/x + 1/y = 4

Therefore

1/(3y) + 1/y = 4

or

1/(3y) +3/(3y) = 4

4/(3y) = 4

3y = 1

y = 1/3

since x = 3y, x = 1

y = 1/3; x = 1
