    Hydrothermal vents are spreading centers between tectonic plates on the sea floor. Hot, mineral-rich water spews out from the sea floor and despite the harsh conditions all kinds of animals live there. The tubeworms are probably the most impressive, but there are also crabs, fish, shrimp and many other creatures that use the nutrients from the hydrothermal vents to survive. The water can vary hundreds of degrees in temperature and oxygen content over a span of inches. It's really impressive that life has adapted to fill this particular niche smile
