Are humans truly more advanced or civilized than animals?

Despite our big heads, and our advancements in technology, how are we any better than beasts? Animals live as part of the planet, only taking what they need, yet we continue to take until there's nothing left.

Yes, because they have the capacity to make their lives easier through technology (inventions). Socially and culturally they are also more advanced, but human are also prone to greediness which they could control if they want to.

We are more civilized in that we are capable of creating civilization that uses technology.

Animals do live as a part of the planet but there are animals that kill for the sport of it.  Example Cape Buffalos will kill lion cubs and not eat them.  Elephants will eat until there is nothing left in their area--that is not great planning.  It is not a matter of being better just different.

Yes, humans are more civilized and advanced than animals since our intelligence is much more superior than that of animals.

Human and animal comparison is not possible. If I could get into the brain of an animal,it would probably say humans are barbaric and inhumane. We have no understanding of what is important to an animal . We just know we can train them to respond to us in a way that we understand.

Humans are obviously more advanced than animals; there is no need to delve. Yes, we are selfish at times, but I've seen my dog nearly rip a puppy to shreds for a pebble.
I've heard your opinion in depth before; you're not alone.

    Hello Ben,

You are right in the respect that we seemingly do not use our intelligence to presererve the limited resources we have. However it remains a fact that we are a species that has its own unique intelligence, abilities and more to excel and survive as masters of the universe.
