Have you taught a Fairy Tale unit before to sophomore's?
Calling all teachers! As part of my world lit class, I want to teach a fairy tale unit to start the year. Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, Snow White, and Aladdin, with specific attention to feminism in Disney culture. Please share ideas for teaching activities, etc. Thanks.
As a former teacher I don't understand how Disney is listed as it's own culture. I think that starting your year with these tales is a great idea but should reference the culture each story originated from. They hold great value in understanding the values and culture from abroad. Disney has a place, but it is highly Americanized. Feminism is alive in your stories but that is a reflection of the original culutre. Sophmores are super fun. They like to get goofy. Have them write and perform sequals to the stories, and give bonus points for original songs:)
