Should a Mental evaluation be mandate for the citizens in this country?

Just like doing our Tax returns, do you think the Goverment should mandate that all the citizen should undergo a mental evaluation?
like our yearly physical? what do you think?

No. Never. Anytime you give the government for authority to do anything, they will mess it up. Social Security was once the greatest social welfare program around and now look. Some have advocated that it be required to undergo a mental evaluation in order to purchase a firearm. This is a ridiculous idea. If the government gets to choose who is too crazy to have a gun, then everyone will be crazy. The government has no authority to speak in personal matters.

I agree with the other commenters, for the most part, that I certainly don't want our government to have any more power over us than it already does.  But, I have fantasized that Mental Evaluations be given to any potential parent before allowing them to procreate or at least before the child is born.  If the first was made mandatory, we'd have to also include mandatory birth control up until the potential parents passed the mental evaluation, which sadly, will never happen.  smile
