I understand the ring finger is where we put a wedding ring, but only on the left hand. The middle finger is obviously in the middle, but THUMB? and PINKY? and INDEX? or is it POINTER?Even google could not give me a better explanation sad

I think all the names developed and came to be individually, throughout the years. Maybe if you search for "pinky word origin", "thumb word origin" etc, you might be able to find more relevant information.
