Outside of academics, I learned a lot of lessons from my friends, and various other advisers on campus.  Some of the biggest lessons I learned were:
    (1) The importance of prioritizing
    (2) That sometimes it is okay (and necessary) to make yourself priority 1.
    (3) The value of community.
    (4) Just because you don't like someone, doesn't mean you can't get along with that person.
AND (5) You can tell a lot about a person's character, by how they treat you in a crisis situation, after you have been rude and/or mean to them in the past.

The most important thing was learning to think for myself and then learning about responsibility, because it was the first time I lived alone and I had to do everything for myself, there was no mom to take care of dinner, pay bills, etc, etc. It was valuable time and valuable learning, that made a lot of difference in my life. Good times...

Apart from academics and the resulting college degree, education plays a significant role in molding our lives. College is probably the first time I was from home, and living on my own made me responsible and independent, I learnt how to handle my own finances, and to deal with life's ups and downs myself. These contribute toward making me a stronger individual. Well-educated people tend to be more civilized, in most cases get better jobs than their counterparts, which means they earn better and lead better lives. And not to mention the friends I made in college! The social network you form during college years can prove to be a valuable resource in professional life. Interestingly, I came across a California College San Diego student review, and read that students were glad they went to college and got their degrees, and how education has proved to be an asset in life.
