This is a very difficult question which I have been asking myself for the last 50 years or so.
But now at 56 I am bold enough to answer it.
I feel life is an opportunity given to us by the creator of all things to come and experience what he has created.
One step further I feel we are a manifestation of God himself here to examine what He has created.
A rational view of life may be an opportunity to enjoy and examine what has been created by God.
Vegas Elias has answered this perfectly in my opinion.
I might further add though, is that ultimately this journey, and the inspection of this journey via the intellect, is also about going ever deeper into a realm of love
