What do you think the point of life is? Why are we here?

I'm going to reserve my answer until at least a few people have answered

The point of life is... There is no point.  The meaning of life is in living it.

I don't think anybody can really answer this question.

We numb ourselves into our illusions.  Do you think birds ask themselves "Why are here?"  But to think that we are more important than other species...

I wish I knew more about life when I was younger, but that the way it goes.

You can guess, rationalise, intuit, channel, read all the philosophies you like, but remember we are (just) human beings. Something greater than human comprehension created us.. so therefore NO human being... and I stress NO ONE can answer this.

I believe we are here to experience earthly life, so that we can be more knowledgeable in the afterlife.
I'm not certain; only God knows. I'm just happy to have the experience of living.

Reproduction that's why sex feels so good and everything we do in life is for that purpose. We are like a virus it's only point of living is to reproduce.

The point of life is to make more life . Ironic isn't it?

There is no meaning to life. The universe is infinite and we are here by some random chance, not by any God or any higher being. Purely chance.

Everything we have created is to distract us from the fact that existence is futile.

The serious answer is that there is no reason. We live and we die. Simple as that. What I can't help but find a bit sad is that some people can't handle that simple truth. They need something to cling onto like religion or other superstition. Why do we need a meaning of life or a great and wondrous reason for our being? Instead of wasting a life searching for what is most likely not there, just make your own meaning. Choose your own path and walk it.

The smart-ass answer is the meaning of life, the universe and everything is obviously 42. Duh.

Of course, we are all in this life for a purpose, and the purpose which is basically to praise and glory God, after which we search around for means of sustenance. And only God can grant abundant sustenance to whomever He wills.

I haven't been here for an exceptionally long time but, having seen science in all it's glory since I was sixteen, I've come to one conclusion.
At the beginning, there was no point. Before life had taken form there was nothing to interpret reality as meaningful; this is a judgement call that only the living can make.
But the moment life began, from the first chemical reaction that formed a self replicating molecule up until now, the purpose of life has been to continue our genes. It's to laugh, to love and to understand the universe in what little time and capability we have.
    Peace.

Colossians 1:16b, "...All things were created through Him and for Him."  One reason we are here is to worship Him. Psalm 45:11a, " Because He is your Lord, worship Him." God also created us to do good works after we've come to know Him. Ephesians 2:10, "For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them." Our time here on earth is but a vapor in comparison to eternity. We have the opportunity NOW to decide where our eternal destiny will be. 1John 5:11,12, "And this is the testimony. God gives us eternal life and this life is in his Son. He who has the Son has life. He who does not have the Son of God does not have life." Choose the Son and have life!

A very intriguing question. It asks for a subjective answer first then and for an objective one - in my opinion. Quickly, in the moment of "NOW," I am relating to a movie "Jacob's Ladder" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jacob%27s_ … %28film%29).

I experienced amnesia, both retrograde & anterograde, in 1978 and have been trying to answer your very first question ever since.

To answer the second question "Why are we here?" I have to ask a question - who is or are we? In the moment of NOW, in my opinion, we is whom or what, since animals and plants and all kinds of things are alive, or even the audience reading, writing, and interacting here could be the "we."

I have learned to long of answer means a hub, so I will end it with you chasemillis have presented great food for thought.

One answer could be that we learn about ourselves and make discoveries as we go along.  It appears that we have to make the most of what life has to offer us.

If we don't, opportunities just slip by and through our fingers and if we do, we appreciate the natural earth as it is.  There is so many incredible things happening around us, it's impossible to not see them.

A question this grand I'm afraid is unanswerable in regards of everybody as a whole but requires a self centered approach. I believe that every one of us individually has the power to define each owns meaning of his or her own life. You have to find it for yourself. You have to look. You can't expect others to tell you what it is for the meaning is different for each and every free thinking man woman or child. I live for my girl. I live to make a big happy family someday and then after i shall then live to protect them. Then i will die. That is my reason to be. And each reason is per the individual. Find your reason. Don't ask anymore. Look.

Maybe another question to ask is what is truly important in life?  What is an important enough reason to live?

I suggest, that perhaps relationship is one key.  Relationship to other humans, relationship to all other forms of life, and our relationship with God.  As the saying goes "No man is an island."  And without eachother... life ends... quite literally.

I think we're here to grow and to re-realize God.  I think we got here by forgetting our connection with the infinite, and with God.
