Why is there glorification in this society of constant socioeconomic struggle and poverty while
those who have it socioeconomically easy are maligned?
I think while "the big guy is the bad guy" can be true -only to some degree, in some cases-, much of the problem you mentioned is due to the "poor me" and "sour grapes" approaches.
Unfortunately, while resenting what others have is nothing new, it seems to be getting popular to take resentment even further. On a personal level or national level, too many put their time & effort into resenting what others have, rather than earning it for themselves.
In the past and to some extent the present those well off have been the best crooks with the best lawyers. Then again it does those in power good if the majority of people believe that there is something noble in being poor and struggling to make a living. Not many people can be up the top. There are of course those who from generation to generation fail to learn the most obvious of lessons. There is an American song from the early 1920s that states: 'The rich get rich and the poor get children' which says it all. The wealthy tend to have smaller numbers of children, usually one or two, while the poor tend to have more than one or two. Hence the poor failing to learn from their own generational past continue to be poor. Nothing noble in this. What's more, in having too many children the poor tax the resources of our planet and thus do the wrong thing by us all.
