Did the Apollo astronauts discover gold on the surface of the moon?
Maybe, some asteroids are known to have gold in them, and the moon has no atmosphere to burn them up.
Extremely likely, we know the moon was originally part of the earths crust it was blasted off by a planetary collision soon after the creation of the sun, note i say soon but thats soon in astronomical terms, interesting thing about this collision is how close it was to destroying the earth a few extra degrees the wrong way is all it would have taken.
This information comes from a documentary series i watched called How the universe works a mindblowing seven part series, and further corroborated in a series called Stephen Hawkins universe a 3 part series narrated in parts by the big man himself, for some odd reason they kept switching to an actors voice.
