Despite what you may think of Newt Gingrich; what do you think of a moon base?  Good or bad idea?

Let's face it the world won't be habitable forever.  Either global warming or nuclear will get all of us.   Sure it would be expensive, but think of all the benefits:   Extra-terrestrial theme parks (possible), lower cost rocket launches (I imagine), moonwalking.

Yeah, I don't really subscribe to death by nature or death by human stupidity on a global scale.  On the other hand, I get we've put a lot of effort into the space station over the decades to advance science as a whole.  The thing I don't get is why we scaled back on exploration.  We could have easily visited Mars by now if we had the same passion as a country in the space program they had from the 1940's-1970's.  I think we've put this stuff off far to long and need to start developing ways to at the very least establish a realistic travel procedure for the inner solar system.  It should have been done by the mid 90's in my opinion.

Corporate greed sets the priorities of the government. A manned mission to Mars was on the books for early 80s, but scrapped because of the Vietnam War. Mars mission dwarfed by the war spending. Gotta keep those military guys fat and happy.

It's the sort of thing that an amphibian would think of.

Gingrich is not my idea of presidential material, but he shouldn't have been attacked for a moon project.

America's gone crazy. It's no longer land of the free and home of the brave. We now cower behind TSA -- "please enslave us some more!"

Moon base would be excellent. We used to look up to astronauts and going to the moon. We also used to honor astronauts when they bowed their heads in prayer before a launch. Now, we ridicule Tebow. We've lost our way.

I hope we get it back. America used to be a great country before tyranny set in (as early as 1913 and the private Fed).

I think that the idea of space exploration and moon bases is a really good thing for humanity.  I think that it is a great idea.
