Are women more inclined to perceive that "fresh baby smell" than men?

A girl friend and I were talking recently about how we love that unique fresh scent a baby has. Many women friends have commented it on it over the years, too. However, I have noticed not all men seem even know what it is. Are women more naturally attuned to this smell?

On the contrary, I have perceived and enjoyed it (more than my wife perhaps) in the case of our 2 kids.

It could be some sort of mothering instinct, kept from our primal days as opposed to just being used to being around children. Maybe animals have enhanced senses with their own cubs to detect danger or keep them close? As I don't really know the fresh baby smell I can't say for sure.

      That sounds very plausible!

Is the "fresh scent" something like when it needs its diaper changed or is it actually a good scent?

No, lol! It is a very unique and NICE smell that only babies have.

There should be an air freshener made from fresh baby smell so everyone can enjoy it. Unless it's fresh poop smell, in which case don't bother ^^

      Beth,
Then perhaps men pick it up in a different 'sense' than women and that is why they do not smell it. Men pick up the bad smells, women pick up the good smells.

Women are certainly more attuned to smell than men in most cases. Great question. It is called mother instincts.
