Fill in the BLANK with Fact or Fiction; Funny or Sad, Serious or Silly.......

Deep thoughts are filled with realities & fantasies.  We focus on our life, our loves, our trials & hopes.............BUT...

What's really a hot mess in my life is my house.  We bought a "charming" fixer upper ten years ago.  I so romanticized the notions of my old home holding so much history and how much character it had.

At first, every little project would make me smile with delight and I'd ponder about all the love the previous generations must have poured into this lovely old house.

A few repairs here and there are no big deal to have a home at this great of a price and to be able to live inside a bit of 1880's history I thought...

That is until the pipes started leaking, - not massive leaks, little pinhole ones you can't find until they've done a boatload of damage. the windows rattle, the roof had to be replaced, stuff creaks, the staircase started to separate, the basement leaks, I've had to rewire the whole damn house, the drafts that blow through here are nothing short of stunning no matter how much we insulate and seal up.  I'm pretty sure it's haunted, because there are so many cold spots.  It's near a field, we get mice and I have half a dozen lazy cats that do nothing about it.  Every fall we have to set traps as soon as they cut the fields down.

We need new paint, new windows, new siding and there are chips in the plaster walls from rambunctious boys, the trees are as old as the house and need trimmed back and those are just the few "charming" things about this dump I can list off the top of my head.

As soon as we fix, restore or replace one thing - five other things go kaput. It's maddening.  I was stupid for ever thinking that I could keep up with a house this old and have it completely restored.  Unless I live to be 230 years old that will never happen.

The funny thing is - there is no other house on Earth I would want to live in or love as much despite how much of a "hot mess" it always is.  I must be a glutton for punishment, but I love this old barn of a house smile We've managed to make it a home anyway.

Christin...I'm blown away.  I just can't believe we bought the same house!!  Oh, do I know what you're saying!  My husband bought the movie "Money Pit," just so we could watch it when we got overly frustrated!!   I feel your hot mess, girl!

Hmm, I'm thinking but not coming up with an answer here.  I mean, generally speaking there's a lot of stuff that makes me stop and wonder why me, but on a whole its really not so bad.  After all, being a baby boomer has brought its own interesting phenomenons.  I missed the drug scene and free love and moved right into a family.  Four kids kept me crazy and busy through the nineties.  So what happened in the seventies and eighties?  Well I remember Bon Jovi and Twisted Sister blaring on the radio not to mention Blondie oh and watching Annie and Sixteen Candles.
If I had to pick I guess I'd say all the doctor's appointments.  Between Larry and I we pretty much cover the month.  We can't make plans without consulting the calendar because one of us is bound to have a doctor's appointment.  If it isn't the gastroenterologist, its the neurologist.  Geeze, when I was younger we just had a doctor period.  Oh well, age and time will have their way.  Guess it could be messier.
