Why do people need a God or gods, whether it is in the spiritual or secular sphere via celebrities &

    other famous, celebrated people?

Generally speaking God or gods can be defined simply as an authority offering expertise and/or guidance. Then one questions 'How' that occurs. Forget the inference of religion and all its trappings. For instance one may say nature is an authority. That could even be familiar for one without language or before a form of man drew on cave walls. There was an authority.

Going further using gods that kinda' is where mythology enters with the Phoenicians, Greeks, Nordic, and many others too. Perhaps too with inference with celebrities? There are/were authorities.

One may say simply going upstream one discovers authority. Kinda' like salmon once were upstream before seeking spawning upstream again. One may say they pursue authority. Another view easily perceived is having a 'boss' in the workplace. Most certainly some of mine thought they were God or a god :-)

Well there has always been some one that has existed before our births, local would be parents,  relatives, we needed their care to grow and learn to become developed into stages of life, to reach Adult hood.
But that is the habit of arrangement in most human families.
But even before this arrangement was another that had to do with caring for all humans from a heavenly domain , our care was in the hands of the one who created all things,
Col 1:16 because by means of him all other things were created in the heavens and on the earth, the things visible and the things invisible, whether they are thrones or lordships or governments or authorities. All other things have been created through him and for him.

So here is why we are here , because of him , Michael, earthly name Jesus we were created for him.

And we are loved by the Father who created us all including his First born Angelic Son being Michael.

We were to be a complete family in every sense , even though satan caused accusations against the Heavenly Father
So that he can receive worship for himself.
That is the period we live in where satan is
    testing all creations of God.
How are we doing, are we doing things our way , and not the Father's way , he has not interfered to allow your free will of choice
but he also know the inner heart , what kind of person you really are.
All will be given a fair and righteous judgment.
And then the real life will begin.
This life is not all there is.
Just a stop on the road to the real destination here.
    So to answer your question
Do we need parents, yes! they are vital.
Do we need a Sovereign who created the parent arrangements yes, because he knows
how all things work while we are trying to figure it out.
We may be Adults , but there is plenty we do not know that only God can answer. And we need to know to keep living.

So now we experience life without his interference,  and now people say it is his fault things happen,  what about what humans do to cause things to happen,
And when he does step in, there is a cleaning to do, and undo all the wrong things.

No one needs a god or gods. Children are born sometimes being deaf, mute, blind, and even without a brain (only the stem which causes a heartbeat and respiration). So, if there were a god, this would not even happen.
People have been told all their lives that they "need" god to save them from something. What that something is, no one really knows. Hell doesn't actually exist, or no proof of it exists, so why do they need saving? Answer: they don't need saving.
People think they need a god to love them. That's not true either, or no one would be unloved.
People think they need a god for guidance and morals. That's not true because lots of atheists know what to do and are very "moral". They don't feel a need to lie, cheat, steal, rape, or murder just because they don't believe in a god.
People think they need a god for "spiritual" awakening or some other mind development. That's not true because yoga (without a god) will help you accomplish the same sense of your place in time and space.
People think they need a god to pray to to make their lives better. That's not true because only you can make your life better.
People think they need a god to help their football team win. Seriously?
People think they need a god to heal the sick. That's not true because sick people die all the time - atheist and believer alike.
So, good question! Why do people think they need a god or gods?
It's just a belief, not based on any logical thought. Of course, people are allowed to believe whatever it is that they want to believe. Or not.

Things happen to people everday, but do you say you do not need a doctor, medicine
or procedures to save a life.
Things happen to people because it has been already been said we do not need a God the Father,
We already have suffered without him.

I do not expect you to make sense of them
But I know someone else does.
So when you speak there is no surprise.
