And there it should be left, but I have a feeling this could evolve into another religious debate... We just need to wait for the right/wrong people to get here...
For me, I love people because of God. For me, it is natural to love God. To me - we are all people and I try to be kind to everyone. Not all of my friends go to church or have any faith at all. Many of the people I have become friends with on HubPages are all over the map in what they do and don't believe. It isn't my job to prove what I believe or that I convince anyone to believe anything. Every day I try to love people more than the day before. I try to treat people better than they treat me, because it helps me focus on the helping people. Take care, Holly
yes, our lives are meaningless and without purpose and we are incapable of loving anyone including our children, nature, pets, or ourselves because we are soluless heathens who will burn in hell for eternity.
(that is how smug christians (not all christians - there are some really nice ones out there) view people who do not believe in the christian god).
I think that is spot on. Most atheists and other non believers have religious family members and have agreed to disagree with them. You have said directly what some keep trying to sell. That we are somehow unable to love because we do not follow their belief leaving many astonished at how anyone could come to such a concluion! soulless heathens indeed!
Even though I honestly do believe it certainly does not make someone bad because they do not believe, all of us should love one another but we know it is not going to happen.
If a man still prophesies, his parents, father and mother, shall say to him, "You shall not live, because you have spoken a lie in the name of the Lord." When he prophesies, his parents, father and mother, shall thrust him through. (Zechariah 13:3 NAB)
Joh 3:16-20 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. (emphasis mine.) 20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.
Sorry about the "thee's and thou's". It's the only version I have on computer. (I just happen to be one who never had a problem understanding it, right from day one. Strange, that.)
Anyhow, you missed the meaning of the scriptures, as usual, and post your weird obscure verses. Oh well
And WHEN is anyone who uses that book going to READ that everything Is NOT in that Book ALONE? Just more blah, blah, blah and more blah, blah, blah of people telling you what it does NOT say in that book. Oh IGNORE those parts to statisfy WHOM???? SELF! Yourselves and Not whom you are supposed to LOVE.
It is good of you to pull it back a bit. I must sleep soon, it is very late here in Melbourne, and I need sleep. Goodnight and may you and yours be safe and happy!
I only said that's a reason people need God. I'm not sure, but I have reason to suspect that the main reason people believe in God is because they interpret a variety of things and events as evidence that God is real.
Faith is not evidence. Logic is evidence. I think you hit something on the purpose though. I think many choose to believe in something higher than whats known through faith simply to fill a purpose for life.
Again confusing love with like. To like someone is not necessarily logical. However, if you wish for everyone's betterment and well-being, not only is love logical, it ultimately is the only logical thing to do.
Which one is greater. A love that doesn't want revenge or a love that manifest vengeance for what they love?
Love is definitely an aspect. He killed my kid, now I will kill him back.
Or, he killed my kid yet I know he is someone elses kid. I may be very angry and miserable and think of all sorts of tortures I could to someone that would take what I love off the face of the planet, yet I am compelled enough out of love for life that doing so would hurt another innocent person.
Then why bring it up? God, being the Creator of the Universe has the right to do anything. We don't. The act of murder is the ultimate in playing God with another person's life. Usurping divine authority.
It's kinda hard for your God to be a role model of love when he goes around killing people that make him angry. I keep a logical mind not to kill people when I am angry. Does your God not understand logic? I love you.
I'd be a horrible attorney, actually. I offer no defense for people who play God with other people's lives. That being said, it's not "playing God" if you are God.
The Christian God is not the only God people believe in. There are many different beliefs of a God. If one God was absolute, I think all would believe the same things.
Love is not dependent on any one person or entity. Love is a concept that exists all on its own. And both good and evil people are equally capable of love. For instance, there have been leaders who were ruthless towards their people, yet very loving and caring towards their family. Conversely, there have been leaders who were very benevolent and caring towards their people, yet neglectful and indifferent towards their family. Nothing is black and white. Life is never that simple. And humans in general are far too complicated to be defined by only one word or concept.
And that people whose religions call sinners for not believing in god are also capable of love and have in them god regardless of whether or not love is a credit to god or to someone else.
Love is not exclusive to any belief or group of people. Anyone can feel it or experience it, there is no requirement or prerequisite for doing so. Every human heart is fully capable of both love and hate.
Many of those romance novels, ya know... the ones with Fabio on the cover. Oh man, that would be one bookshelf of sexiness. Not that Fabio is sexy, he's not my type, oh whatever!
We no longer need God in order to Love no more than I need My mom or Dad ; in order to breath, I recieved breath through them but I no longer need them to breath or to Love.
What do you think people need to change in their lives before the Judgement Seat of Christ happen? For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad. (2 Corinthians 5:10)
Many people claim to have experienced talking to God or Jesus directly, or at least claim to have recieved a strong sign or a strong answer to a prayer. Have any of you had one? Also, how would you know when someone has or hasn't had a genuine religious experience (as some people's...
Christians, doesnt that bother you?even a little?how many Ted Bundys do you think are "saved"?Do you care who your neighbors are going to be for all Eternity?
It is a fact that (if) being gay is a sin, it is no greater a sin than fornication.SoI myself feel no right to judge anyone being gay especially when they are truly in love-I'm a bit perplexed because-It's wrong to judge and 'let the first one without sin case the first stone' - no one here...
