The simplest answer is because many humans fear that which they don't understand or control. They may see money and the power of money as something that is not under their control, something that will never be under their control, or because money & it's power is something they don't understand (yet somehow refuse to even try to).

Why are some parents fearful of letting go of their teenaged & adult children, refusing toacknowledge that they are maturing instead they keep them in an infantilized status because that is less threatening/unnerving to the parents?
