    Ratio of apples to oranges is 4:6. Ratio of oranges to pear is 8:1. Total fruits 172. How many each?

    if there are 4 oranges for every 6 apples, then there are also 16 apples for every 24 oranges.  There are also 24 oranges for every three pears.

    We know if we have 16 apples then we have 24 oranges and 3 pears.

    This is a total of 43 total fruits which must be divided into 172.  This is 4.

    We have 4 x 16 apples=64
    We have 4 x 24 oranges=96
    We have 4 x 3 pears= 12

    64 to 96 is the same as 4 to 6
    and 96 to 12 is the same as 8 to 1
