Yes, because liberals define themselves as love, moral, tolerant, rational, and everyone else as stupid, crazy, evil.
This lets you refuse to listen to the other side while smearing them as not worth listening to. It also labels everything they say as hate speech, since you've already said "We're love, you're hate". This is why conservatives need to oppose hate speech bans, because liberals already want to apply it to all of their viewpoints.
Now add in the liberal view that not only are they good and moral, but to contradict them is a violation of their pure selves and an assault on the holy ideology. (For most, political ideology is at the same level as religious faith.) Now espousing a conservative view is offensive, a social affront, and if you do it again, it is considered equal to violence and worthy of shouting down if not hitting the speaker to shut them up. When words equal violence, you can return someone's statement with a fist.
This is the same view Islam takes, that contradicting their doctrine or pointing out its failings in implementation are offenses worthy of death. Liberals already define themselves as the side fighting evil, and now they are justifying fascist violence against those with opposing views in the name of fighting violence. And that is what makes the "hit a nazi" meme so dangerous - they've already smeared everyone else as nazis.
But when you've lifted yourself up to a holy cause fit to die for and justified in attacking others, of course you're right to engage in mob disruptions of private events, death threats against critics, assault speakers on stage and deliberately ruin the lives of those who cross and SJW.

And all of this has occurred because classic liberals find themselves unable to rein in the authoritarian liberals because of how much they share in their definition of ethics and their own moral worldview.
