April has written an excellent article about what teaching use to Brenda like and what it is like now. There are some good ideas about how to keep schools safe also.

This is an important article, addressing the issues in the field of education, with special reference to the teachers. There are so many challenges now, and I agree that teaching is not the same as it used to be.
I have read about the mental health issues, which was on a high during the pandemic times, especially in the young people.
Online teaching was not fun for the teachers, and as April has mentioned, students still haven’t got used to the re opening of the educational institutions.
A thought provoking article shared by you. I just hope that all those disturbing problems are resolved soon.
      Thank you April and Pamela.

Right now with the tragedy in Texas, teachers have so much more to think about when teaching their students.  Covid has also certainly caused disruptions.  Times have changed over the years which April shows in her post.  Thanks Pamela for featuring her work.

A very interesting article by April. It is so concerning the effects that both school shootings and COVID have had on education and teaching. I can understand why many teachers have left the sector, and very few now want to pursue a teaching career.

This is an interesting and thought-provoking article. The coronavirus must have been a major problem for many schools. Now the threat of violence in some areas is making the situation worse. I hope the situation improves for April, other teachers, and students.

    Great write April.
Parents should help their children instead of putting the blame on covid.
Families were together. Sad they didn't help the children learn better discipline for studies.
It's difficult for teachers these days.
Not only do they worry about teaching their students...they have so much more on their plates.
Many kids go to school without eating, without coats..etc.
I've known teachers who take the role of parent & provide for students.
Now with school shootings it serems impossible to keep a classroom on track.

In this article, it is very clear the frustration that April and other educators must be facing.

We live in Western Canada which was not as badly hit by COVID as much of our country and the USA. Our grandchildren had a variety of experiences, each opting out of physical classrooms at times, and each seeming to feel more secure with this option. Although they did not get COVID, they were sent home because of "exposure" and to quarantine in their bedrooms, which was not a pleasant experience for young teens over a two-week period. One granddaughter is "all about the rules," as her father describes her, and the other, older teen is less interested in obedience for the sake of obedience. From their perspectives, COVID is "over" and they each profess to "hate school" which is a very sad outcome in my opinion. I can only imagine what it must be like for teachers when their students are so negative. And we do not have all the tension of school shootings up here. Still...

It was good to read April's perspective as a caring teacher. I also think that her proposal for metal detectors is a sensible one for school security.
